NY Times: New York Medical Schools Fight Caribbean Flow
by rasheed 01-03-2011, 07:59 AM

In an article posted in the NY Times on December 22, 2010 the NY State medical schools have vowed to fight the inflow of thousands of students from the Caribbean area.

New York is the largest and most "IMG-Friendly" state of all the states. If they start fighting and blocking access to Caribbean and foreign medical graduates, it would be an IMG disaster indeed.

The argument is that New York hospitals are "crowded" with Caribbean medical trainees which leaves no space for their American counterparts.

Caribbean medical schools have been sending thousands of medical students to train in NY hospitals as they lack large hospitals to train their graduates "hands-on" and on the other side, hospitals like it as they are being paid Millions of dollars by these "for-profit" schools.
