New NBME Form 11 and Form 12 are Out!
by lee-usmle 04-06-2011, 06:04 AM

The NBME has released two new NBME Comprehensive Basic Science forms for USMLE Step 1, (Form 11 and Form 12)..

Here's a screenshot of the new forms;

The new forms have the same number of sections and items. 4 Sections and 50 questions each. They are also available (just like Form 7) in an additional option which is expanded feedback performance.

The NBME did not mention why they skipped (Forms 8, 9, and 10) as the last Form released was Form 7 (See related USMLE News Article).

It also noticed that Form 1 and Form 2 are no longer available. Perhaps the new Forms 11 and 12 are replacing those forms.

We have added the new forms to our Best NBME Form for USMLE Step 1 Poll. We also removed the old Form 1 and Form 2 from that poll.

The New Forms also have an additional new feature which is "longitudinal" assessment which means you can combine your NBME scores assessment from different forms into one single report which means higher prediction accuracy. For further details see this official NBME document https://nsas.nbme.org/nsasweb/doc/sample_CBSSA_long.pdf

Also, the NBME added new features, these are the ability to highlight and strike out text, just like in the original exam interface. However, we noticed that the interface is still not exactly similar to the FRED interface. If you want to experience the exact same exam interface your need to download the Free 150 (Read more about it here).

Yeah I noticed that today too. Why would they skip over "8,9,10"? lol...Now I'm confused whether to take these or stick with 6 & 7.

Oh gosh...Now I am so confused whether to take NBME 7 or this new forms for my final prediction ???? Should I stick with NBME 7 since not so many students have taken that new forms so NBME won't have enough data to compare our results, meaning it will be less accurate ???

Well I guess maybe if you can take one of them? I am not sure either now. But regardless at least you will know where you stand score wise ... I guess you can just take one of them to see a predicted score! I think I might take 6,7 and 11 or 12 :/

Ugh just take all the money I don't have!! lol

Does anyone know why they introduced these new forms ? Are they any different or better than other forms ?

According to DIT's fan page on Facebook(http://www.facebook.com/DoctorsInTraining?sk=wall) on the March 22 post, they state "New NBME features include: A new and improved score conversion table so students can get a more accurate assessment, an application that mimics FRED (strike out and highlight), and expanded feedback for questions that are answered incorrectly."

So i assume its more accurate

Lol true cautie pie, they just want to make more money off us and our uncertainty.
But do you guys think these new ones will have more immuno in them and will reflect the new test??

Yeah that will be true in long run but meanwhile, since they just introduced these new forms, I dont think they have larger data comparing to more established forms.

Anyway, it's good that they finally introduce the system similar to the real exam. I really hate the old interface.

Im sure they will. I took my exam 2wks ago and so did my brother... We both got hammered on Immuno both normal questions and experimental style questions... seems like they want put the new Immuno category on the NBME reports so people can differentiate if they are weak/strong in Micro or Immuno...

My exam is on April 28. I have taken NBME 6 and 3, and I was planning to take NBME 7 one week before I knew this. Arrrgghh...so confuse now, NBME 7 or NBME 11/12, I just want to take one more.

I guess you should still stick to NBME 7 because everyone knows its the best predictor of the actual step 1 score! But if you feel like you might be missing out this "new" thing then may be you can try out one of the new NBME's (11 or 12)
Good luck!!

These new forms are "virgin" forms, which means that no question bank has tried to mimic any of the questions. Thus, when you take them, your prediction will be very close to reality. I suggest you take these forms instead of form 7

My colleague has just purchased Form 11, he previously did Form 4 and Form 7.
He said that Form 11 predicted little less than 4 and 7 and he said it's even more difficult with longer question stems.

Good luck to all, thanks God I finished my Step 1

How predictive are Nbme 11 and 12?

Hey guys, I just took nbme 11 and got 560 (235). This nbme was very different from any other I have taken (1,2,3,5,6). It required ALOT of thinking and the whole time I was making educated guesses ( I actually got a headache). The questions were generally longer too. My question is, how predictive is this nbme? I have yet to book my test but I don't know if I shud rely too much on this nbme. Should I just keep studying and take nbme 7 a week from now? Any suggestions? Thanks guy

The difference between Form 11 and Form 1 Predictions

The one on the left is the score correlation for NBME 11. The one on the right is NBME 1. Not much a difference but its there i guess..

I just took form 12 today, I got 640/254. Compared to form 7 which I took last month (570/238) I'm not sure which was harder... the questions seemed equally difficult but then I've had a month's practice with the UWord qbank in the meantime. There were probably more immuno questions in form 12. I'll have to wait and see if the newest oracle spoke accurately.
