Arrow JAK STAT Receptor Pathway

JAK stands for Janus Kinases
STAT stands for Signal Transducers and Activators of Transcription

Simplified Steps of the pathway:
  1. Cytokines binds to JAK receptors.
  2. JAK receptors phosphorylate STAT proteins.
  3. STAT proteins dissociate and cross the nuclear membrane to effect gene transcription in the DNA.

Great video animation

Substances that activate JAK:
  • Growth Hormone
  • Prolactin
  • Interleukin II
  • Erythropoietin
  • Interferons
