Biochemistry All the Biochemistry Shuttles for your Step 1 Prep!

small list I made ..

shuttle are required to transport substances between mitochondria n cytoplasm in different biochemical pathways where part of cycle takes place in mitochondria and cytoplasm..

Mitochondria to cytoplasm

1) Malate shuttle>> OAA>> gluconeogenesis in liver

2) Citrate shuttle >> acetyl CoA >> FA synthesis liver

3) Ornithine shuttle>> citruline>> urea cycle in liver

cytoplasm to mitochondria

1) Carnitine shuttle>>fatty acyl CoA >> beta-oxidation of fatty acids in liver(primary source of energy) n muscle
