Skin Pemphigus Vulgaris Versus Bullous Pemphigoid

You need to know the differences between these two as they are commonly asked in USMLE exams.

Here's a table that points out the most important high yield differences

I wished that you added dermatitis herpetiformis to the list

A great thread, though I read that bullous pemphigoid antibodies are against hemidesmosomes, exactly against BP-220 part. I read this in FA 2009, and rechecked in Davidson's medicine.

Another thing that might be added is that the bullae in bullous pemphigoid are tense, they're friable and fragile in pemphigus vulgaris.

You are absolutely right. I was a typo and I apologize for it. Now I corrected it to hemidesmosome not desmosome. Certainly patients with bullous pemphigoid have their basal epidemis chopped off the basement membrane because of non-function hemidesmosome not intercellular desmosome.
I removed the numbered names anyway because I think they are not so high yield.

Thanks DrSeddik
