Arrow 18-mo unvaccinated child with headache, fever lethargy

Hi, If you saw a question which mentioned a 3-mo to 2-yrs unvaccinated child which symptoms which made you think of meningitis, pneumonia or epiglottitis, think of Haemophillus influenzae.

Further info may be: G- pleomorphic rods whcih require factor X and V (heme and NAD) which are present in Chocolate agar.

Tx*: cefotaxime or ceftrriaxone for empricial therapy of meningitis.
check nasal carriage before releasing----->clonized?---->rifampin (also as a chemoprophylaxis for exposed family members.)

* I also saw ampicillin and 3rd-gen cephalosporins
Impossible is impossible!
