Sputum Cytology Question

A 65 y/o African-American woman with a 40 pack/year history of smoking has been having persistent cough for about 2 months and shortness of breath for the past three weeks.
The following is her sputum citology (Papapinocolaou stain):

a) Adenocarcinoma
b) Squamous cell carcinoma
c) Large cell carcinoma
d) Small cell lung carcinoma
e) Sarcoidosis

I will go with E..sarcoidosis.

I should go with B, but i dont know why i keep telling my self i see "neurosecretory granules on this smear" which point me to Small ceel Answer D, if i have to go, i choose D and wait for the consequence .... hahaha

So Answer is D for me.

YES.
This cytology is from a patient with b) Squamous cell carcinoma.
Remember: No one expects us to be pathologists ... if you see a PAP smear with reddish/pink/orange "stuff" in it...think squamous.
