RBC Amino acid sequence and hemoglobin structure

Blood is drawn from a child with severe anemia and the hemoglobin protein is degraded for peptide and amino acid analysis. Of the results below, which change in hemoglobin primary structure is most likely to correlate with the clinical phenotype of anemia?


a. ile-leu-val to ile-ile-val
b. leu-glu-ile to leu-val-ile
c. gly-ile-gly to gly-val-gly
d. gly-asp-gly to gly-glu-gly

I think its B) leu-glu-ile to leu-val-ile

Glu is replaced by Valine, so this is classic Sickle Cell Disease.

I agree with B, and this has to do with the Basic properties of valine against the acidic properties of Glutamate .
