The Cushing reflex is caused by increased intracranial pressure due to intracerebral hemorrhage. The reflex results in Cushing's triad which includes bradycardia, hypertension (or widened pulse pressure), irregular respiratory patterns.

Treatment includes raising the head of bed, sedation and mechanical ventilation, hyperventilation, mannitol, surgical decompression with Burr hole or craniotomy.
