I agree with nsesero,

take the latest nbme forms. If you have enough money, take all forms available afterwards.

I found that forms 13, 15 & 16 had some similar topics but 16 was pretty rough. The main thing is to see the style in which they ask the questions. You will see variations compared to Uworld questions so that is important to note.

Few more days until my exam date. I pray I pass the exam, not praying for a pass then score 240+, but a pass is good enough for me at this point. Had to check in to the hospital for a few days as I had my first serious panic attack. Never had one of those before.

Wish me luck everyone! I will give you a rough feedback of my exam the day after.

Probably, because NBME guys are superstitious. Maybe they skip over those numbers, because they think they are cursed or something. We should consult some conspiracy theorists.

I may be becoming suddenly superstitious because the nbme 13 really scare me lol!
I can see that: They did the #14 then suddenly a guy told: Guys, this is crap, let's do another one and call it 15 instead

Maybe you are right! Its like when scientists do experiments or maybe are trying to synthesize a new drug and they number the prototypes. And when one of them fails, they simply move on to the next number.

This 6th read of FA is BRUTAL TORTURE. I keep burning out every damn day. I don't think that's normal.

I liked reading some of the conspiracy theories on the "lost ones". Just to chime in, they may have also created those NBMEs , and then distributed them to the FBI (for a good price of course), who may have used it or intend to do so as a torture weapon for illegal immigrants. Or it could just be that each one of those NBMEs clashes with their numerology or birthdate or birth year. We'll never know.

Speaking of NBMEs, I'll be giving 13 this Sunday. Really worried coz I've heard that 13,15,&16 are really tough

I want to thank all of you who have wished me luck on my exam date.

It is tommorow. Please pray for my success.

The neurologist and opthalmologist I saw previously have made appointments for me to see them the day after for specialized tests so I will probably be in the hospital days after my exam.

Some words of advice for people here: Life is tough for everyone in different forms and you never know what can happen throughout your life. Just do what you love, whatever inspires you. It is not promised but we are given a gift everyday to live. So cherish those days.
I always loved medicine and dreamed of becoming a physician. Whether my exam goes well tommorow or not, I know there is always a better day after and hope & eventually I will achieve my goal.

I wish you all the best of luck in your exam. I know it is stressful at times but think about how many lives you will influence and save in the near future. It is one of the few prestigious careers in which we have that opportunity.

Perhaps one day I will have the privilege of working with you all.

Hope to speak to you soon. Take care & good luck!!

Default finally!

Hello!
so i gave my exam today! and by the end i was ..
i found it quite tough, not to say there werent any easy questions, but there were also lots of difficult ones like those in nbme 16 where you have got no clue where that came from.
i found many pure anatomy kind of questions, which were not covered in first aid, and had to guess with my background knowledge..
Also Urinary incontinence!! Man! i got at least 3,4 questions on urinary incontinence and another 3,4 or so on pelvic injuries and stuff, things which arent there in first aid..
But also the exam was satisfying in the sense that you know its the end and i sort of enjoyed giving it....
so now fingers crossed for the result
good luck to all the others who are going to give their exams!!

Unhappy

This is the second experience that I have read recently on the forum, where the person got lot of straight anatomy questions, but Anatomy has not been covered in much detail in FA or even Kaplan and everybody says its low yield

Congrats laferrari, you're done! Wish you awesome results! It seems incontinence is really high yield... Was that more anatomic questions or physiopath or what about it? For anatomy it is gonna be tough for me but still one month... just got "Underground Clinical Vignette", somebody used this book? I heard good stuff about it and it seems fast to include in the last month rush...

anatomy is so far on the top of my worry list for exam. I havent used used that book but i dont know if this is the time when one should be adding nee resources to their schedule. This is what those who are done with their exam say. Reinforce stuff u had already studied . I did not listen, i went over the board for anatomy randomly jumping to brs then case files then kaplan and etc etc all that just started giving me creeps and was definitely not productive . Anyways Its a vast subject they can make any question i think kaplan and uworld is ur best bet bcoz everything there written is high yeild.

well there were quite a few anatomy questions, not so much physiopath...
yeah absolutely, one cannot read greys now! so just revise what you have read and hopefully you will be able to guess correctly if any question is out of the box..

Just read the incontinence table from First aid for CK, it is pretty solid and all you need to know really...

Another thing that i wanted to say, just dont lose your way while reading the question. sometimes it seems like "what the hell? what is this?" but they are actually asking something that you have read and you know well, just not in that particular way... like they make lots of research questions for example you took a rat, did this and that to him and then the question, so just dont panic when you see something like this, most probably you know the thing they are asking.

hey laferrari congrats on being done. i cant wait to get this exam over with
apart from anatomy how much of the exam do u think was covered by FA+UW?
goodluck for results

Hello!
I am new to this forum. I just keep reading through a lot of topics related to USMLE Step 1.
I am an IMG from Europe. I just started my 4th year of Medical School (out of 6). I just wanted to let you know that what you guys are talking about is helping me a lot. I am still trying to figure out what study resources I should use besides FA. Since Path makes a big part of the exam.. I was thinking of going for Goljan , Pathoma or Robbins. Any thoughts?
For me this Step is like impossible right now. I admire you guys. I admire you A LOT!
I think I will start my studying with FA(I am planning to study during my 4th year , so I am thinking of giving Step 1 like 12 months , but not a lot of hours/day). Should I also use Kaplan videos?

P.S. I didn't know where exactly to post this. I am really sorry if I am off-topic.

Best of luck from me!!! May all of you score as high as possible!

if your bases are weak then you should start from the usual stuff kaplan notes and videos . for pathology see what suits you the best both pathoma and goljan are good . i think robbins would be an overkill and time consuming. finally when you are done with grabbing all the concepts from these boks go through FA and uworld and take nbme which will you give an idea how much you are ready for the exam. goodluck

Default Extension request

Hi guys,
I am an IMG. I applied for exam in March. Requested extension for eligibility period today and after completing the online part, a form 183-E Was generated. This is a form to be submitted by a student or graduate from a medical school that does not participate in EMSWP.
I didn't need this form while applying FOR The exam in March that indicates my school participates in EMSWP.
I am confused if I still have to get this form signed and send it to ECFMG?
Does anyone know how to proceed about it?
Would appreciate any help?
Thanks

Yes, better to keep the better for the end, kind of, lol... Since my date is the 31 and it is also the last day of my authorized period, don't think I'm gonna postpone anyway...My nbme 13 was not that bad (232)...not sure how accurate this one is... So now it's more do or die for me... kind of burn out at this point. Good luck for your review! Hope we will have some return of the others when they take it.

I have my exam in 3 weeks too!

Haven't done NBME 15 or 16 yet but will do 16 in another week or so and if it's really low, I guess I have no other choice but to cancel the date.

Man I'm burnt out to the core as well. I just wanna get this exam over with (but at the expense of a low score.)

I am in the s ame boat! Exam is in 3 weeks. Right now I just wanna get this exam over with. daily 10-12 hrs studying..grrr..
I would do NBME 15 and 7 on Friday back to back. Its a good idea to get yourself prepared for 8 hrs exam. Today I am taking a break for EID

Lets keep pushing ourselves more and hope for the best!

How was NBME 15 by the way? was it hard?

I'll be doing NBME 16 with another offline NBME to simulate the real deal.

For me its hard to cover all fa in 3 days! May be u can skim very fast with more attention to most forgettable!
& yea NBMEs really takes time if you do it offline.

I like the idea to do 2 nbme back to back! I may do that with 15 and 16! as for me I feel also it takes a lot of time to look for answer on line of these failed questions on nbme. That the down side...not sure if it worth it...time is FA pages at this point, lol...FA in 3 days is sure tough, it is probably just to fix the last minutes details and forgettable....

Well, same here, very old IMG, and sure not comfortable with the anatomy questions they can come with...but anatomy is huge anyway, and I'm kind of sure it is the same for most of people taking it. Let's focus on the high yield stuff and pray for the rest...trying to reassure myself as I say that!

Will take the 15 and 16 at mid month... it scare me also, particularly if I score bad....

I've heard 16 is the hardest so far, so I thought I'll take it before 15 so that I can prepare myself for the worst and have some time to emphasize on my my weak topics.

Singthesong: yes, it is OK Do you need one more test to see where you stand? At J-8, probably not. But if you just want to see more questions, you can found pieces of nbme 7 on forums discussion... At least that how I see that. Good luck!

I think nbme takes a lot of time to review questions. Depending on how much time you have, but maybe focusing on review your material plus nbme 16 may be the way to go? At least that how I'll do...

Good luck, please let us know how form 16 went coz I'll be taking it next week.

I feel ya on the zeal part coz I got none either. I have to search somewhere deep (like in my stomach or pancreas) to replenish that zeal lol.

Hi
My exam is in 18 days,my NBME scores are in my desired range but I don't feel confident ,haven't reviewd UWorld and forgot every thing in fa ,I'm thinking of postponing my exam for which I need to extend my eligibility period too,is that wise to do so? Is there any chance that I feel confident one day?

Hey, Helena. If your nbmes are in your target range go for it, particularly with 18 days left to review again. Waiting more may just bring burn out and forgetfulness of all the details you have in memory already...

I feel quite puzzled that everybody is saying that the real deal is not like Uworld or nbmes and nobody is giving exemple of the real day... Why so much mysteries around this exam!

i can totally relate to you. i was also thinking of postponing the exam but i know that i just can't take it anymore. if you are getting the nbme scores that you want then just dont worry you are good to go and dont delay , you are at ur peak. i agree with ramen if you delay you might just burn out more and be depressed.

m thinking the same... i do one thing...n i forget wat i did 10 days back.. n i cant manage to hurry up n do one last revision of whole fa in 3 or even 7 days like all ppl.. n now that i m nt left with a week. . m gonna let nbme decide. if i wil fare well in nbme,i guess i wil b fine in exam too...

but then i think,if i hv given so much to this exam, what if i postpone for 4 days n get done with anthr go of fa,hopefully this time within a week? thats the fun thing... i can postpone for 4 extra days only..rest all days r booked.

i did nbme 16.. it was fine.. ppl hype everythng up.i was expecting really reaally long ques.. they r almost like uw.. ques were.. i think it was so heavy on micro.. earlier nbme all are one liner ques mostly... in this nbme,u wont find those much.rest it was fine.. i did 4 mistakes just coz i was rushing... i will tell myself to not do that in real deal. ..
so guys relax. its fine thing.

btw.. i got bad score in cellular biology n respi... (in borderline) n i hv 5 days. i guess no use of the subjectwise review for me. the prometric has no seats left for dates ahead of my date. ..only if i had delayed yesterday ...

so guys relax. its fine thing.

btw.. i got bad score in cellular biology n respi... (in borderline) n i hv 5 days. i guess no use of the subjectwise review for me. the prometric has no seats left for dates ahead of my date. ..only if i had delayed yesterday ...

i havent taken 16 yet but since majority of people find it hard and you found it 'fine' then i think you have prepared well and no point in delaying. abt weak areas if you can manage 2 or 3 hours , do cell bio questions from kaplan qbank. goodluck

Congrats, that's such an amazing score. I couldn't never imagine getting anything close to it.

Took NBME 16 yesterday and it wasn't all that crazy as everyone hyped it up to be. Made some silly mistakes though.

I have only last NBME (form 15). Has anyone of you taken it yet? If so, how is it in comparison to 16?

I have an exam date for this month end so I'm freaking out like crazy.

well, 247 is pretty nice! Depending of your goal. But I think there will never be a guaranty like, ok, 100% sure we will get the same score as the nbme. We may have more actually (or less, but let not think about it). Personally I was thinking to postponed but now I think I'll go for it on the 31... didn't took the nbme 16 and hesitating to even take it. My nbme 13 was in the >230, 2 weeks ago...

man... i totally agree with u. but there r people who get 264 and dont think its the 'best' score yet there are people who dont sit their exam till they get 260+ on any assesment
personally i think if anybody gets 250+ on their exam, its not just hard work (with all due to respect to laferrari and everyone who get big scores) its also luck

I have got a confusion. My schedule permit says to confirm appoinment 7 days prior to date. What does it mean? i have already received an e-mail from prometric subjected ' appointment confirmation'. I think thats all i need ..

Do i need to call again to 'reconfirm'??

Yep, slacker.mle, luck is always a factor so hope we will get this extra luck the D day!
No idea Ainat, thought it was per se confirmed if we don't cancel... maybe someone who already took it will give us some input on that...

Oh yes, definitely! NBME 13 was just super depressing for me.
