Default USMLE Step 1 October/November Examinees

Hello All,

Please share your thoughts and insights on exam preparation if you are writing in October/November. I have completed the following:

KLN & Videos x 1
Pathoma x 1

While I have studied other sources as well, I mentioned only these two as they helped the most, others such as HY, BRS, CMMRS etc, tend to be too extensive and filled with minutae. KLN & Pathoma for me were only good for understanding the big picture and annotating/understanding FA.

Intend to cover UW, Kaplan QBank & FA along with Goljan Audio in the coming 2.5 months.

That's good Samreen, how are you liking KLN? I intend to just get through FA & UW within the next month, then I will redo UW and KaplanQBank for weak areas. Will be using NBME to assess the weak areas. Have you taken any NBME's yet?

Hello.

This is my material for each subject and what I've done:
  • Physiology = KLN and Videos ... Done (KLN 2x)
  • Anatomy (Histio,Gross & Neuro) = KLN And Video (but I didn't watch histology videos) ... Done
  • Biochem = KLN and Videos ... Done
  • Genetics = KLN and Videos ... Done
  • Micro = CMMRS ... Done (2x)
  • Immuno = Review of Medical Immunology by Levinson (Great book) ... Done
  • Behavioral Science = KLN and Videos ... Done
  • Pharm = FA and Kaplan Videos ... In process
  • Pathology = Pathoma ... Loading
  • FA 2014= I always read it when I finish a chapter and make some notes on it. I think I have covered 50% of it.
  • DIT ... Loading
  • UW: 20% done

I plan to finish Pharm and Pathoma in the next 2 weeks with 20 UW questions daily. Then 4 weeks with DIT along with FA and 46 UW daily questions.

I wish to take my exam in October but the Nbme score will decide .

Any advice is welcome .

Note: The memorize thing didn't work for the first read (like everybody says) and that is reflected in my awful UW results (I began UW when I started Micro with random blocks of material that I had already covered). All the questions that I faced was covered in FA but I couldn't recall it. I wasted so much time in that and I got panic . For better results just do a quick comprehensive review of kaplan and of course annotating stuff in FA, and later give all your soul to FA and UW. Also for the first read, try to set up 4 hours (if you study 8 -10 hours) of Kaplan videos 6 days a week, it works for keeping a good pace and avoid laziness .

Hi, your plan sounds like mine. I started with kaplan notes and did behavioral, biostat, genetics ad neuroanat. I couldn't watch those videos and I didn't seem to learning much from them, so I switched to UFAP+DIT. Intend to take exam in nov or oct. I found this reddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/medicalschoo..._worrying_and/) after I made my schedule, which is almost exactly like the one the guy had. Learning UFAP cold seems enough to break a good score, I'll know soon. If something seems too complex to comprehend I plan to supplement it with relevant material. Plan to take NBME after each pass.
