Exam-Results Got my score report today, 99/249!

I'm so happy, but I really expected a score like that one.

Lemme elaborate on the way I prepared for the exam.

I started in late May/early June 2010, the rate wasn't that great, but then I accelerated it, I used the following sources:
Kaplan for all subjects except Pathology, I used Goljan, I watched some Kaplan videos, but as for me, I see they're a waste of time, u can watch some, like bio by David Seastone.

Anyway focus on Kaplan, don't try to bother urself reading Goljan over and over, the audio can be too sufficient. I also read Kaplan pathology lecture notes twice because I found Goljan is way tiresome and beyond the syllabus of the exam.

First Aid is the gold-standard reference for the step 1, I read it 5 times, you have to memorize it by heart, eat it out, and of course the whole USMLE is about doing lotta questions, I did Kaplan Q bank offline, did Q book, First Aid Q&A, USMLE World online:
Cumulative score mixed and timed is 75%, that was in February and i took the exam on May 24.
I also did NBME but offline, because i was satisfied and reassured by my score on UW. Do lots of questions, also try to find some good source for slides, and i got 2 heart sounds on the exam.
I hope great success to all of you, with my best regards. Anyone can ask any question.

There's no specific inclusive and comprehensive source for the slides that might appear on the test. But i see Goljan slides are too fine, but i didn't watch all of them. Also WebPath is a great source. However, you'd still see slides on the exam you had never encountered

Haha,

I was also just going to also ask how come you already got your score back since USMLE said there was going to be a delay in reporting test results for exams after May 17 till July 13.
I also took my exam on May 25 but no score yet but like Kundra said, it might just be random

Anyway congrats on the great score

Really Great score! Congrats! Love the confidence post exam, shows how ready you were and you deserve it.
Surgery is hard, whether general or any of the surgical specialty, even with a high score, especially as an IMG. There are preliminary programs and categorical programs. A good friend who is an AMG with a 240+ couldnt match ortho the 1st time around. If you dont have citizenship or GC, makes it harder, cause at least with the latter, you can also try prelim programs. Matching into a prelim prog can be tough because if you dont get into a categorical prog the next year, one can be left in limbo and not having a valid visa, have to leave the country.
Best wishes

I'm pretty grateful, Lena, but i know some guy who's an IMG and from Egypt like me, who got a residency of general surgery in Michigan, he got 98 and 97 on steps 1 an 2 respectively, but i heard he did some research on parentral nutrition. so what do u think?

Well, i got like 25 questions wrong outta 200 as for NBME form 7. sometimes i only got 2 questions wrong outta a 50-question block, sometimes 8.

Well, during the period of preparation, i was an intern then a GP, but i'm in Egypt and you barely work during this periods of your medical career. So you can say i was almost carefree. But of course i didn't stress myself, sometimes 8 hours a day some times 2 ... bla bla. The most important thing is doing questions, memorizing FA by heart and doing good on the simulation exams specifically UW. If you get somewhere in 70s, then go for it. If you don't, just go for the feedback and stress of areas of weaknesses. You'll feel if you're ready or not. It's not about the time.

Congratulations on the great score and thank you for posting an experience. FINALLY!! It's been a while since someone posted their experience.

I think you have a fair chance of getting into surgery. Within the surgical field there are those ones that people call "impossible" (i.e. ENT, Ortho) but for general surgery you can surely compete. Try to do some research....score awesome like this also on your next steps...and shoot for the stars, you might land on the moon. Congrats!
