Philippines Filipino Student not sure about Kaplan edition

I am an IMG from the Philippines and I have the Kaplan Books and videos but I am not sure if its the latest one since it was just given to me by my cousin fr the US who just took the MLEs. They're the 2008 version, are those the latest ones?

Would u advise that I read Kaplan instead of the individual books?

I plan to take it this November.

Thank you.

Arrow Welcome to the forums!

To see the various versions/editions of KLN please have a look here
Kaplan Lecture Notes For USMLE Step 1 Exam
After reading that thread you can tell which version you have.

As to whether you need to read KLN only or substitute them with individual review books, it depends on you and which way you feel comfortable. I personally prefer the KLN-only approach (method 1 in this thread).

Many students think that the Pathology part of KLN is deficient and so they substitute the KLN pathology book with Goljan Rapid Review. Though, this is not my suggestion, am just telling you what's common out there.

Default Need a copy of your Video please

doctorindistress,

the edition that you have is old however, I've seen others use videos as old as 2007 and still pass depending on how you study.

I have the 2008 book set (dark blue books, right?) I bought them last year, I an IMG too from FEU but have been looking for 2008 video match for these books.

You are God sent! Do you think you can share a copy with me?
Are you here in the US or in the Phils?
How can I help you on your review? Can direct you to other sites and read what others are experiencing.
Do you have the Goljan Audio lectures and notes? Highly valuable to have.

Perhaps we can help each other. My email is s_gut@ymail.com
Please respond. Thank you.

Thank you very much for your reply. I have started reading and I am applying the ZumZum method which I also read in one of your threads, thank you very much. I really hope my journey will be smooth and hopefully, I will get a very high grade. I will be using Goljan if I can get hold of the book, if not will use Kaplan. Thank you again. God bless

Default 2008 books should be fine =)

Hi doctorindistress,

I've wondered the same thing about my Kaplan books (I have the 2008 set too from when I did Kaplan Center Prep in Cebu). I've looked at a bunch of different USMLE forums and the general consensus seems to be that there isn't much of a difference between the 2008 editions and the more recent 2009/2010 ones. They have pretty much the same content (according to people who have bought both) and can be used along with the videos (within the last 5 years).

About the Goljan Rapid Review book - there's a Revised Reprint of the 3rd edition that came out just two months ago. (You can find it on Amazon. Lots of people are complaining about the binding, but I haven't had any problems with it.)

I totally agree about the Goljan Audio Lectures - they're awesome 'cause you can listen to them anywhere. I'd have to say the only downside is not having Dr. Goljan's slides to look at as you're listening to him.

Good luck to you both doctorindistress and md_next_door.

Hi! I've been looking for ebooks of the latest KLN, but I only found 2002 editions.

Wait.. is it even legal to talk about ebooks here?

I thought it was impossible to but the whole set! they're so expensive!

Question:
How can I get KLNs locally? Because according to another thread, KLNs "are distributed to students who sign up for the Kaplan CenterPrep only and they are not meant to be sold in libraries."

Post KLN

hi orthotrigger. i did not download any ebook. got all my books through amazon.com, which were the RR Goljan Patho and Hi Yield Books. My cousin who signed up before for Kaplan gave me her old books. Yes, for you to get the latest Kaplan Books, you have to sign up for Kaplan and pay for them. Hope this helps.
