Show Teeth Got my result last week - 255+

Hi guys created this new ID because anyone could recognize me by my old username
I am an IMG from India and graduated a year back. Took the exam in August 2nd week and got my result on Wednesday. I got a score of 255+

Time taken for preparation : 3.5 Months

Study Materials

1>Uworld X 1 and redid all the incorrect and marked

2>First Aid 2014 x 2 Times (Annotate every single high yield point from Uworld)

3> Pathoma X2 : Just watched the videos. Didn't read the textbook

The most important advice i can give is don't do uworld offline. Just pay for it do it online because you can assess yourself. Stop begging everyone in these forums and instead use your time studying because 199$ is nothing compared to what you spend for this journey.

So i used only these three resources and i think its enough even if you are an IMG. I didn't find Kaplan notes helpful and they were not high yield. Don't get bogged down with many resources. Just stick to Uworld, FA and Pathoma. Sometimes less is good.

My score progress:
Uworld % 1st pass - 82%
NBME 13 - 239 ( 5 weeks before the exam)
NBME 12 - 237 ( 4 weeks before the exam)
I got really scared because my target score was 260 a
nd started revising FA+Uworld 12 hours a day

NBME 7 - 251 (2 weeks before)
NBME 11 - 249 ( 1 week before)
NBME 15 - 251 ( 4 days before)
NBME 16 - 251 ( 1 day before)
STEP 1 - 255+

Exam experience - Overall my exam experience was good. I liked the questions (Just give a thought and appreciate those who set the questions!). My exam was heavy on Behavioral, Biostatistics and Microbiology. There were a few difficult questions in every block which i couldn't find later even after Googling, but thats common and don't get freaked out.Got a couple of repeats from NBME 16 too. Uworld helped me a lot.You can answer almost every question in the exam if you know uworld and FA inside out. I finished every block with at least 10 minutes to spare(I think it was the adrenaline)

Here's how i divided my breaks.
Skipped Tutorial

Block1,2
10 Min break(Cake,Apple)

Block 3,4
10 Min Break(Oats, Granola Bar)

Block 5,6
5 Min break. I was feeling a bit sleepy so drank a cup of Tea

Block 7
Finished the exam in 7.5 hours

This exam is totally doable. When i started 5 months back i didn't know anything abut usmle.I am an average student; so if i can do it, anybody can do it.Yes, i didn't reach my dream score of 260, but hoping this will be good enough
This forum helped me a lot. You guys rock! Leave a post below if you have any questions, will be glad to help.

I went through Kaplan qbank for a while and found it was not so helpful. Yes doing more questions is always good but i think your time now would be well spent on FA and Uworld.
Yes FA gets a bit boring but you'll realize the importance of FA in the last 2 weeks.
Dont read FA the entire day because you'll get bored. Do FA in the morning. Then do a couple of blocks of uworld in the afternoon and read only the 'Educational objective'. Then read FA again or watch a Pathoma video to keep things interesting

I'm not asking anyone to trust me mate. This was how I studied. Thought I'll leave my experience here because I think I owe it to this forum. If anyone needs my advice I'll be glad to give, if they don't I have nothing to lose

Goljan is very comprehensive and you wont be able to remember most of the things by the time you finish the book. Do Pathoma videos instead.
Dr.Sattar is one of the best teachers you'll ever see and he has a unique method of teaching things. His teaching will stick in your brain! And if you absolutely want to do Goljan, listen to the audio lectures before you sleep every night.

I had studied for all India PG entrance exam for a year. Didn't get a seat so thought usmle is a better option and started studying for it.

Idea!

Congratulations for your score. Glad to hear that you can get such a score with only those resources. I will definitely focus on those after I finish my 1st read. Did you do your studying subject wise or system wise?
P.D. hahaha I will leave the forums and study for a 250+ I really would like that score.

I read subject wise. I started with path as its the big one and I needed something to keep me hooked to studies and the pathoma videos did just that ;-)
My typical day would be read FA, do one or two uworld blocks and if I still had the energy, a couple of pathoma vids

No I didn't do UWSA. Trust your NBME score. They predict your score pretty accurately.

255+ in 3.5 months is a real success .

Congratulations

The only thing i dont agree with you is Pathoma. İ found Pathoma very shallow for this exam.

Default Congras! Best of luck

Its really motivating to see such a post and hearing about your success. Couple of things
1) Anatomy is what i am concerned about the most. What do you suggest? is FA and uworld enough? knowing my basis isn't that great.
2) any world of usefulness of kaplan Qbank or usmle Rx. I am doing uworld but its been a brutal journey so far.
3) did you annotate your FA with all information from Uworld or made a separate notebook. I feel there is too much to add.
4) there has been certain panic with regard to change in the pattern of questions, its no more like FA and Questions are more vague & generalized version of nbme 16. What are your thoughts? How should one be preparing?

Thanks a lot and best of luck!
