Costa Rica What's behind me does not matter!

First let me start off by giving a little info about myself. Before I started medical school in Costa Rica I was a registered nurse in the US. My husband and I decided to continue with our studies and we have completed 4 years (out of 6) in med school. We had a baby 9 months ago and decided that we would stop for 1 semester to take care of the baby and study for the step.

I started studying on January 24th and I took the exam on July 1st. I went through everything but anatomy of the kaplan videos and I didn't really read the Kaplan lecture notes unless I had a doubt about something. I started UW in February and did about a block a week at the beginning and then eventually I was doing 1-2 blocks a day. I went through FA twice and did UW once. I tried doing it a second time but only got through about 30%.

Now for the exam...

Let me start off by saying that I have no idea if I passed but I feel that the exam is very fair, very doable. I even finished one block with 20 minutes left over. Most blocks I had about 7-10 minutes left. I took a 10 minute break after the first 2 blocks. Then 10 after the 3rd and 25 minutes for lunch. Then 10 minutes after the 5th, and then 20 minutes after the 6th because I felt very tired. I had over 20 minutes left of break when I finished. I was dying to finish in the last block and I was so happy when I did. Now I am relaxing at the beach now with a glass of wine in hand!!! THANK GOD...

Ask away!

Actually I didn't feel there was 1 topic that was emphasized, I felt it was a little of everything with A LOT of pathology.

UWSA 1 - 194
UWSA 2 - 223
NBME 5 - 196
NBME 11 - 210
NBME 7 - 210

I felt that the exam was MUCH easier than USMLE world and less tricky than NBME's assessments.

Anatomy was pretty easy actually... Brachial plexus and typical leg questions. Everything that's in FA and in UW questions . Genetics was easy, I only got 2 tree questions and they were pretty straight forward. Immuno was very heavy but doable. But it's ALL in FA.

Yes it is... It was pretty simple and I didn't study much anatomy. Very straight forward. If you had a good anatomy class in med school you will be ok.

Yes I didn't read the lecture notes but that's because I'm a better listener. That's just me. Everything is in FA and UW except the crazy weird ones.

congratulations on the exam! and thanks for the great feedback. I'm thinking of giving it soon myself, going to take an nbme in a few days and make the final call..hopefully things will sort out. I especially liked your feedback about it being easier than the UW and not as tricky as the nbme. lol, those were my 2 real worries about the practice tests! Best of luck for the result, enjoy some well earned rest!

Yes, you should do NMBE's because I had 3 pictures that were EXACTLY the sane as some assessments and that helped me get the answers.
