Molecular High Yield Cell & Molecular Biology - a must?

Hi there,

well, I would appreciate some help...

I decided to use FA (with notes from BRS Physio and HY Neuroanato) + Goljan (not taking notes on FA, using it full) and also starting doing as many questions as possible.

But, I would like to know your opinion about the book HY Cell & Molecular Biology, should I use it as I'm using Goljan? Since it became a HY subject?
I have Kaplan Biochemistry too, which has Molecular biology, is it enough?

And at last, if HY Cell & Molecular Bio is a MUST, and I need to use it not only to take notes, but to review it several times, should I get the 1999 edition which is more concise or the last edition (3rd I guess)?

Thanks in advance

I guess you are referring to the TAUS method...
Personally i think HY has great pics, but i never really considered it a must... If you have Kaplan, then i think you might to fine without it. But on the other hand, the pics are well worth it, HY is quite clinnical also.

Yeah, its quite similar to TAUS method, although I wont use all review books to fill gaps on FA, I prefer to use UWorld to fill those remaining infos. Otherwise it will take too much time and I will have more experience about what's important and what's not.

thanks for your reply.

I got a good number of biochem questions, but they were fair and could all be answered from FA. Read through the FA chapter, memorize the lysosomal diseases, the diffferent genetics terms, draw the pathways multiple times until you understand them, then use UW to fill in any blanks.
By the way, biochem was one of my toughest subjects going in; I found FA hard to read so I also used gunnertraining. I highly recommend doing it, it's pretty much the same info that's in FA but the pathways are explained and then you have flashcards to help memorize it. On my last NBME, I got stars in biochem
Not sure if you need a different book for molecular biology, questions were pretty straight forward. I got one question that wasn't in FA, but it was in UW.
Try not to overwhelm yourself with too much study material, I'd bet 99% of the test could be answered fro FA, UW and/or Kaplan Qbank. Just learn that stuff really well and you will be fine.
