Default Waiting for STEP 1 score!

Hi guys, I took step 1 on 25th Sep 2014. I found it hard! Maybe because I was nervous I was marking more than half the questions in each block.. By mark I mean like I had to make educated guesses. I made some crappy silly mistakes as well and remembering them is killing me. This wait is really hard. Im gone almost undercover and am not interacting with anyone. I did ok on the NBME's. Got a 220 on NBME 13, 3 weeks before the exam, 234 on UWSA 1 and 237 on NBME 15 4 days before the exam. Also did the free 150 2 days before the exam and got 84.5% correct. I maintained a UWorld average of 70% in timed, unused. Guys I really feel as if I will fail Can anyone who scored like this in the NBME's and all jump really low? Or am I being too anxious? Please reply someone. I need someone to calm me.

I haven't taken the exam yet, but all my friends that have taken it had the exact same feeling...and everybody scored near their NBMEs scores...so, don't worry...i will probably be like you when i take the exams...

Embarrassed gave on 26 sept,,

i gave my exam on 26 september....it was quite difficult...most of the time i had to spend long to figure out the answer...still wasnt sure.....biochem ,,pharma and micro were mostly direct ...while patho and physio really grinded my concepts...they didnt give away the diseases easily...i had to figure them out on basis of history and lab values...and the options were very similar and confusing...overall question stems were similar to uworld but longer with lots of overlapping options ..and ct scans were quite complex ...

I felt the same after the exam. Took it on sept 26th. I marked >20 questions in my first block. Every question always came down to two options which confused the hell out of me. My NBME 16 score was 249 but I found the exam to be much much harder than that. Sailing in the same boat. Let's hope for the best!

to USMLER do pelvic anatomy well, and look for other resources of molecular biology and genetics.. a bit of stuff is lacking in FA.

as far as micro images are concerned, there were quite a few of them,,,especially from parasitology,,.not given in fa 2013 EDITION..and there were few pathology slides i coudnt recognize but one could answer them on the basis of the question stem ...and there were urinary incontinence questions...testing the muscle anatomy and innervation..my overall impression of the exam was that they used FA and U world as a raw material to frame most of the questions and mostly tested our understanding...one cant just excel the exam on the basis of memory. FA was only useful for subjects like pharma and micro with straight forward questions plus all the diagrams ,tables and flow charts especially from endocrinology (calcium metabolism was all over the exam ).

In my case, the qs were not asked the same way as in the NBME's or UW. However, i had qs in my exam where they were asking me basically to apply the same concept asked in the nbme 15, 16 and even UW.

Its true that you are not going to get an exactly same copy of UW and NBME's. Nonetheless, same concepts are asked in a different way, either long qs stem, up and down arrows...
In my opinion is enough to ace this exam.

Good luck.

i took the exam on september 26th and been preparing for it since january. I thought it was very difficult! hopefully i'll get my score by this week and update you guys how i did. My practice scores were in the range of 245 to 252 in NBME and UWorld practice exam. Finished UWorld with a 74% average all timed one month before the exam. There were questions on the exam that I had never seen and basically asking straight up facts. Also there were quiet a few management type questions like what's the best initial step in management or initial diagnostic exam. Biostats wasn't too bad as long as you do the uworld biostats course. There was a few parasitology pictures but nothing too difficult. I thought for the most part pharm, micro, and Immuno were fare. Some path questions or some biochem/genetic questions were simply ridiculous. The exam overall was very similar to usmle world. People expect the uworld questions to show up verbatim on the exam but I have done kaplan, RX, and Uworld all twice prior to my exam and would tell you the style of the question (NOT THE EXACT QUESTION) is similar to uworld and then RX. For the most part I would say 90% of stuff asked was on firstaid or uworld. Hopefully I'll get my score by this wednesday and would update you guys on the outcome. The exam requires a lot of stamina and if i were to prepare for it again I would take 7 straight blocks of uworld or simply take 2 NBME at once. I was delusional at the end and couldn't really think straight towards the end. Anyway I wish all you guys best of luck and i hope everyone does well cause you all deserve it after all these hard works.

Yes. Questions were a lot longer than NBME 16.

For anatomy, you need to have a good imagination.

If you have time, I would suggest you run over High Yield anatomy. It shouldnt take more than 2 days. If you have more time on your hand, then go to youtube and checkout the channel anatomyzone'. I found these resources to be useful. Also, I got a star in anatomy on the actual exam
