Default Very low NBME score? Should I postpone my exam date?

Hey guys,
I'm terribly disappointed with my recent NBME (form 13) score. I got a 232 (which is a bit of a drop from the NBME I took before that (7: 245).

I have an exam date for the 30th of October but I don't know if I should get a new eligibility period coz I want to get at least above a 240 on the real deal. This is truly depressing as I thought I would have score at least above a 235 on this form.

What would you guys suggest?

Oklahoma NBME

I think eventhough NBMEs are predictive they don't give u the exact score u r gonna get on actual exam,ur score mostly depends on ur performance on exam day as u can be super focused and do great or have black out moments and make stupid mistakes
Any ways,I think u can raise ur score upto 10 points by reviewing UW and fa in the 30 days u have,u can keep ur date till last week and take NBME 16 one week before ur test so don't decide now ,study for three weeks and then decide based on ur NBME 16

i think you may have plateaued because after a while students plateau and what happens is first ur nbme scores r constant but then u see a gradual decline, maybe that happened in your case....reasons for the plateau? because u have exhausted the resources you are using....reasons for the decline? because you are entering the burn out phase AND the stuff you learnt in the beginning of your preparation you are starting to forget and if you gonna spend time reviewing those areas you will start to forget other subjects....for me personally thats a great score i believe anything over 228 (which is the average for US medical students) is great...but thats just me u might be one of those ppl wanting a 260+ i don't know .... bottom line if i were you i would write it.

Hey doc12345, thanks a lot for your reply. I do think you might be right about the plateau bit. I do feel burnt out pretty much every day but I keep pushing myself to finish my targets for the day.

I've read FA 6 times so far, and most of the stuff is on my fingertips (meaning I can answer these questions with reasoning) but I guess I do have to improve some of the weaker topics/subjects (which keep changing from one NBME to the next.)

In all honesty, I just want a >240 but I'd be quite ok with anything above a 235. My biggest fear is what if my score score in the next 2 NBMEs (form 16 and 15 resp.)? I had originally planned to give form 16 on the 8th of Oct but I don't know if I should postpone it.

For now, I've decided to keep the date as my eligibility period ends in October (end) and just give it my best. I think if I do go through the arduous process of getting a new eligibility period, I might not have the energy to continue reading the same old stuff.

why don't you tell me what you have done up to this point? you mentioned you read FA 6 times...what about kaplan lecture notes? what about Uworld? how many times did you solve UWorld? and did you use any other qbank?

and you are right about one nbme showing certain subjects being weak and another nbme will show something totally different and i will tell u why that is....every form has its difficult questions and easy 'gimme" questions ... now in one form the author may have decided to make the CVS questions to be tougher and Respiratory questions to be easier and in the other form it may be the other way around...because you only get 200 questions and its hard to test u on every single concept in just 200 questions...but if you have reached the burn out phase as u mentioned then its useless extending your eligibility period PLUS october 30th man? u got tons of time!

My friend! You stand good chance of hitting 240+
If u are like me who want to be 100% sure and wouldn't want to go in for anything then:
1. Waiting for a week to your exams before u decide won't be a good idea , becos u would pay cash to prometric for change of date and then ecfmg for postponing exams in less that 31 days. That I tell u would be more than 250$
2. If u extend period right away, then u would only pay 70$.

Am giving u the option to choose from.
But on a serious note, if u maintain ur date u would surely hit 240+
But if u don't believe urself so much then cancel and extend ur eligibility period to save money!

Hey nsesereso (lol sorry if I spelt your username wrong), thanks for your reply.

Actually my eligibility period comes to an end this October. I can't extend it any further, so all I can do is to just apply for a new 3 month period which means I have to start the procedure all over again (by paying $1000).

My only option is if i'm not ready, I'd be canceling my date (which I've heard is free of charge as opposed to postponing it, which costs money.)

I'm just going to work real hard until my next NBME and see if my score improves. I had originally scheduled to take form 16 on the 8th of oct, but I'll postpone it to the 12th.

Oh ok so u mean ur extended eligibility period is end of October!
Then neglect all that I said up there and focus. Don't cancel ur date pls.
U can cancel it even a day to test day if u are not ready. to repeat the process again which I doubt looking at you score.
Yea, hit ur self hard u will get 240+.
A lot of guys here made 240s with nbme telling them 220s.

Yes, sorry I wasn't so clear.

Thank you that is so encouraging to hear. I can really sense a lot of positive energy from you, and I think I shall work hard like you said and then assess myself. I hope your prep is going well too.
