Unhappy Need Help - Last 4 week, poor NBME score, u world expired, which question bank now?

Hi friends!
I created a mess with my preparation.
I was supposed to be giving exam on 21 October, but NBME predicted just 205.
My U world cumulative random was also very low approx just 50%

I have completed uworld once but its gonna expire in 3 days. Not gone through first aid yet. I don't know why but fist aid just doesn't suits me. I'm not able to retain anything from it.

I have decided to reschedule my exam in mid November. I'm totally burnt out but know that I have to keep going for a decent score.

But now after uworld what should I do? I mean u world was suppose to be gold standard. So should I renew it and go through it once more or should I buy new q bank?

I was thinking about USMLE Rx. So that it can hammer some facts in my brain. Will it help? Or should I go for kaplan Qbank istead?

PLEASE HELP

Do the Kaplan - but I can almost guarantee it will make you feel even more depressed, personally I think Kaplan Q-bank is harder then UW, worse thing - as people say it is becoming Low Yield, because more then 50-60% was not updated since 2010... it is very strange why FA doesn't work with you - Do it with Express Rx - videos .... if possible add additional couple month for preparation....

I learn things only when they are presented with a question or scenario..
That's why I'm not able to retain facts from first aid until I find a question over them.
That's why I was thinking about USMLE Rx.

Will kaplan QBank work better then USMLE Rx in my case?

Can't delay exam any further then mid November Have to give..

Well all I can tell you is to hang in there coz a lot of us are going through a similar "burnt out".

As you may have read on many forums and threads, the UW cumulative score DOES NOT count. It doesn't matter and I want you to toss that idea out of your head right NOW. It's what you've learned from the Qbank that matters and I can't really emphasize enough on that, especially when it's so hard to do with the percentage staring you in the eye when starting or reviewing a block.

FA sucks for some and they decide they'll use Step up or Kaplan MedEssentials instead. You could try checking out those. I personally feel FA only begins to make sense once you have a foundation (may it be from the BRS series or Kaplan LNs or HY series). Once you've built a solid foundation, then FA becomes a much easier read (still painful, but slightly better) and from there on, it's all about repetition to get things to stick in your head.

I would recommend you do a solid read of FA and do the Rx bank side by side so it can help you consolidate FA. That's what I did and I think it helped me (I can't be certain as I haven't take the exam yet.) Once you're done with Rx, then go back to UWorld and do a 2nd run through it. You should be seeing a gradual increase in your scores (but remember, you are NOT using this bank to assess yourself but rather to learn from it) only to boost your confidence.

Good luck!

Greetings!
Endurance is the name of the game. Endurance is key. Endurance is everything for step 1. Know that it is normal to burn out, it happens with everyone. I'd suggest you take a day or two off, completely. If you don't, it'll be counter productive.

One you've relaxed, it's time to dive in again. I did all 3 question banks, ie, Uworld, RX and Kaplan Q bank. I would not suggest you to touch Rx and Kap Q bank at this stage of your prep. These are good question banks, but should be attempted before Uworld. If you do them after Uworld, the Uworld concepts start to wear out and we do not want that to happen. I'd suggest you do a second run of Uworld. Don't memorize, but contemplate on the concepts. It goes a long way. Concepts are key.

Try discussing FA with someone. That will make it stick.

Hope this helps.

Totally agree with Qirkegaard. It is never too late to do a kind of Qbank if it is the thing needed at one time. Rx is really good to make reading FA a little less of a burden, and I would recommend, if you now have 2 months, to do this month FA+RX, extending you UW subscription to do it again the last month with FA. Totally feel RX was good to hammer the facts I kept forgetting. Good luck!

Same scenario happened to me , I scheduled my test on August after doing uWorld , kaplan lecture note , kaplan videos and 1/3 of Qbook then I took nbme 7 and I was shocked that I scored 198 , I postponed my exam and extended my eligibility period and did first aid , which I don't like , and find it boring , After one month I took nbme 16 an I scored 217 so F.A helped me a lot to raise my score .
So plz try to read it and good luck

you need to do uworld again.
once is not enough.
at this time i would not recommend another qbank
kaplan is nowhere near as good as uworld.

do this,
since you've already gone through uworld once, you need to do it again. and 205 is not too bad...you can increase it to 240 within three-four weeks, trust me.

you need to do first aid. doesn't matter if you are retaining. even if u think it's not going anywhere, you still need to read it. it's going somewhere in your subconscious and it'll come back to you during the exam.

try doing two blocks of uworld everyday with detailed explanations. do them random mixed. read every exp very carefully.
then do FA rst of the day. slow, fast, however you go, you need to do it.
this should cover it in one month. fa is about 600 pages i guess, in one month you need to do 20 pages / day.

then you can revise...with uworld incorrect questions, and fa one more read.

that's my suggestion
