Post IMG STEP 1 Study strategy:

Hey guys,

I am a second year medstudent from Mexico getting ready for step 1 preparation. I am having a hard time deciding which approach I should take, could you guys tell me if my approach is realistic? (I am a good student looking for a good score).

As I only have 6 months to prepare for step one and my school has evident knowledge gaps for the first two years I think this would be the best approach.

1. Read kaplan lecture notes and videos EXCEPT pathology which i would change (substitute) for PATHOMA or GOLJIAN. As I do these, i would buy the KAPLAN Qbank and do it simultaneusly. ---------------------------3 or 4Months

2. take NMBME

3. FA inside out with U WORLD for as many times as necesary. When I am 3 weeks out take NBME two weeks out take NBME and another one for the last week. 2 or 3 months.

I know its kind of confusing but tell me what you think about my strategy... Should I change something? Is it realistic? Should i make any adjustments?

I am also doing DIT and reading FA General principles in december so I start getting a grip for what this is all about and doing some questions from USMLE rx.

I will NOT be attending 5th semester as I think it is of vital importance that I dedicate most of my time towards this exam. I am in the top 7% of my class but I do not consider myself a genius.

I also plan to workout, put drinking aside for at least the last couple of months, eating healthy and all of that good stuff that has a mild benefit on preparing for this exam.

I was thinking about attending a prepcourse but I dont see this being of help as I just have six months to prapare and I dont think taking a course with no step 1 knowledge is helpfull...

Thanks

I also plan to do my pathology school course in English and spanish (With pathoma and wahtever BIG robbins which is the book that my school recomends) as I understand Pathology is very important in this exam.

Your strategy is just fine. I think once you start, you yourself will know if something is amiss with your schedule.
