The general rule is, if the form is not verified by 25th of the first month of your chosen eligibility period, you are assigned a new eligibility period.

So you will probably be assigned to Oct-Nov-Dec eligibility period.

hey here I would like to ask a question. If he is assigned the next eligibility period let's say Oct-Dec as u said, will he still has another chance to extend his eligibility period or not ? as they mentioned we can extend our eligibility period just one time.

Yes of course. He has the option to extend his eligibility period to next contiguous three months i.e. Jan-March

I will make this even simpler:

You selected Sep-Nov eligibility period, but your forms were not verified by 25th of the first month of your eligibility period, so you will be assigned a new eligibility period (Oct-Nov-Dec).

Now you can extend your eligibility period only once from your newly assigned eligibility period (Oct-Nov-Dec) to the next three contiguous months (Jan-Feb-Mar) and they should not be overlapping with your original eligibility period (Oct-Nov-Dec)

Get me now?

ECFMG will notify you when they receive your credentials from your medical school and they will also notify you when they are verified. The ECFMG can verify credentials quickly, it's the medical school that takes time attesting the credentials.

Keep calling your medical school about the status of your credentials, this can speed things up.

Well I think the online application expires within 4 months if you don't verify the credentials and pay for the exams after registration, but that's plenty of time for you to send all the forms to your medical school for attestation and then to ECFMG.

Relax, if your credentials are verified by September, then you will keep your original eligibility period. This is the actual statement from ECFMG booklet:

To obtain a specific eligibility period:
ECFMG must receive your complete exam application by the 24th day of that eligibility period, and
The processing of your application must be completed by ECFMG by the 25th day of that eligibility period.
Example: On May 3, an applicant selects the May-June-July eligibility period for Step 1 and submits her
application. The processing of the application is completed by ECFMG on May 23. The applicant is
assigned the May-June-July eligibility period that she selected on her application.

You sent your form to your medical school right? If so, then you will not get any notifications from ECFMG, but you should contact your medical school and ask them if they received your forms. If they did, then tell them to attest it for you quickly and send it directly to ECFMG via postal mail for verifications. The ECFMG will then notify you the moment they receive your forms, and when they verify it.

All this can be made easy if you go to your school and do it yourself.
