Smile My Step 1 Score: 246/99

Hello everybody,

I got my score yesterday and I was overjoyed..even though I was aiming for higher but I am thankful to God even for this.
Well here goes my experience..
Preparation time: 6 months
Materials used: Kaplan, Goljan, and First aid, DIT, offline Kaplan qbank around 50 percent and uworld 1.5 times
uworld cumulative:70

My initial aim was to give the exam in 4 months but then by the time I got registered for the exam and paid and all it was early June. I changed my date several times because I gave NBME 7 a few days before my initial date and I scored a 92.. I was really depressed then I gave NBME 1 and 2 and got the same score.
I did NBME 12 and got the same score. I was very consistant I'd say hehe..then after pondering a lot I decided to take a month more to study and in that month I worked on the subjects that I was weak at according to the NBME.

I did a thorough read of the subjects followed by uworld qs just speicific to those topics. it seemed like a drag and to be really true wen i was 10 days from my exam i realised tht i had forgotten a LOT of things because of extending my date. i am still not sure if it was a good choice or not but alls well wen it ends well..i cant say i might have scored better if i gave it earlier..

anyways 3 days before the exam i gave another NBME and scored a 520..it was a bummer but by then i had become tuned to getting the same old score and i wasn't gonna extend it anymore..there was no way i could study anymore
test:

well my first block was really easy and i think that was bad because i got tuned to reading the qs really fast i mean no joke the whole freaking test i was trying to make myself read the options but only in the last block did i do that..i wud just look for the most probable answer and click it and move it..end of the test i had an estimate that i hate at max 85 percent right and at least 80 % right

hope this helps anyone out there struggling and thanks to this forum and its members and everyone who helped me thru this.

Next step is CS in 2 weeks so remember me in ur prayers.

Congratulating!!
After 5 months of studying u got a score of 98 in many nbme forms, then after the extension of only one month u jumped to 520 and 246 in the real exam , what a miracle is that !! This is a very inspiring story under the heading of THE MAGICAL MONTH

Smile great joB!

are you a recent graduate? did you read kaplan notes straight thru or did make your own charts etc to compare and contrast... ? how many times did u do FA and kaplan?

how many hours did you study on average perday? (any breaks in between) .?

did you go thru the entire FA and or entire Kaplan?

did you watch all watch all the kaplan videos? pausing or continuous? how many times? -- and at what speed ? 1.5x??

did u take a diagnostic test or nbme or anything before your prep? if so what was the score at that time?

did u do questions after each topic during the initial few months of studying or no? how did u score and what did u expect during each question round?

did u do all of goljan? DID IT substitute your kaplan path? how many times did u do goljan?

please reply to these questions. thank you. sorry if it seems like a survey. but it is not. answers to these questions wil help me guide myself and figure out how i need to study.

thanks you sooo much.

i graduted 2009 did my hj for one year n cleared my mrcp within 2010. i read kaplan st thru..i read kaplan 1.5 times but the quality was good..i dun believe in number or reads only in quality..i cant count number of times i did FA

how many hours did you study on average perday? (any breaks in between) .?
there were days wen there wud b family affairs n i wud study less but in general i wud try to pull off 10-12 hours..last month i used to study 18 hours

did you go thru the entire FA and or entire Kaplan?
i went thru entire both
did you watch all watch all the kaplan videos? pausing or continuous? how many times? -- and at what speed ? 1.5x??
i dint watch anatomy and micro immuno...1.5 most of them

did u take a diagnostic test or nbme or anything before your prep? if so what was the score at that time?
no i dint take ne before my prep i took one after my firt read and scored a 83 (2dgit sccore)

did u do questions after each topic during the initial few months of studying or no? how did u score and what did u expect during each question round?
yes i did kaplan along with first read scored 70-75%

did u do all of goljan? DID IT substitute your kaplan path? how many times did u do goljan?
i never looked at kaplan patho and yeah goljan is more than enough its a little over rated though it has way too much detail..more than u need to kno..i did it twice n listened to the audio twice

please reply to these questions. thank you. sorry if it seems like a survey. but it is not. answers to these questions wil help me guide myself and figure out how i need to study.

Congratz!! really great score (that's the score I'm aiming to soy you are like a role model :P)

I know you said that you went trough both audio lectures and the book of Goljan for path. My question is... are the audio lectures enough? because some people have told me that is almost the same

I'm a second year international student and I'm about to start taking path (tomorrow starts my trimester actually :P) and I'm taking classes in spanish while studying in english on my own for the step.

I wonder this because I don't have to much time and I was considering listening to the audio lectures while I'm going and getting back from school. Do you think that's enough for now? should I go trough the book now too? (I don't want to neglect my courses but I can make a sacrifice)

I plan to have a full prep time later on after I finish my basic courses and in that time I will go over the book to review.

Please give me your advise :sorry: Thanks in advance
