Medicolegal and Ethics Husband does not want to tell his wife about his cancer

A 47 year old male is diagnosed to have colorectal carcinoma. He is not willing to tell his wife about his disease. He asks physician to tell her that i have some kind of infection instead of colorectal CA.
next day wife comes to physician office and asks about her husband condition in details.
What should be physician response to her?

a) he should tell everything in detail
b) he should tell her that your husband has some kind of infection
c) tell her that you should have better conversation with your husband and he can tell you everything in better way
d) tell her in straight way that I am sorry but I cant tell you everything

And again, as your previous question, "Encouragement to dialogue" is the best answer,

The Answer is C. We are in the right Duty to protect confidiality but Not to LIE.. NEVER LIE... =)

C is the answer. Daugherty says and I quote: "don't answer how it is done in a place where you work/worked or seems reasonable/comfortable, but how it should be done in an absolutely perfect way and that is the answer".

Here, you are not allowed to breach confidentiality, so A is not right, you cannot lie, so B is not the answer, D implies that something is really wrong, so it is not the answer.

I see why A and B are wrong, and can see C is likely a good answer. But why not D? can someone explain why not D?
