Default İ faced with the beast today

Ok guys. First of all thanks to this forum i learned so many things there. İ gave the exam today. İ am gonna write my experience after i get my exam report.

İ just wanna say please work hard!! Because exam is nothing like uworld or nbmes. Although nbmes are good for score prediction somehow question styles in real exam are not even close to nbmes.

İ found my exam way harder than nbme 16. I cant even compare it with other nbmes. İn addition to that , question styles were really different. They even try tricking you ın very very simple concepts. İ didnt see any straight forward question in the exam.

İ found %15-20 of questions can be answered from first aid if you know it cold. For the other ones you will need integration and spot informations of first aid will not help you in %80 of questions. This is why i think uworld is most important source. İ found 5% of questions very easy 10% easy %20 doable but you will need more than FA % 30 hard %25 very hard i mean you can answer them correct but you have to be very solid to get them right %10 WTF but dont worry about WTF's because it doesnt matter how much you study. I
mean unless you read Guyton for physio or Greys anatomy for anatomy you will not be able to answer them easily. In any case you have to make educated guess between 2 or 3 choices in these questions

As everybody say recently Anatomy really suprised me. It was hardest subject of my exam. The weird thing is i studied anatomy very hard. İn uworld i answered 85 % of anatomy questions correct. But in exam İ had been asked so many anatomy questions and i am not sure about %90 percent of anatomy questions. İ read kaplan anatomy 4 times but in exam i could only have answered %10 of anatomy questions easily. 90% of questions Kaplan and uworld didnt help me in my case. But every exam experience is subjective so you may not get so many anatomy questions.

Finally believe me guys if you wanna do really good in this exam . you should know concepts cold. You should understand it and know how to apply it. İf you do it believe me you will be fine.

i would do uworld wrong questions again and FA for last ten days. Do not read any other sources. Just solidify what you have already learned.

Dont get bothered with minutae details.

You dont have to study from any other sources. These books are considerably enough.

Yes they make concepts twisted. They try tricking you in every qyestion. You have to integrate what you have already learned.

Kaplan Anatomy Emryo and Kaplan Genetics didnt help me in my exam. İ dont know what other sources you can study but These sources arent enough for the questions i ve encountered.

Pathoma is good but i think you need goljan if you aim 255+. Pathoma is too shallow for this exam.

Assess yourself with nbme . Although question styles are very different you are gonna end up with similar scores.

Thanks for posting your exam experience. Looking forward to read you study schedule as well (ie once you get your score.)

I unfortunately haven't touched Goljan ( (except for the 1st 8 chapters, the renal, resp and cardio chapters) and I mostly did Pathoma.

I'll be giving my exam in the 1st week of exam, so do you think I should go ahead and start Goljan at this point of time? I feel like I'll forget a lot of the stuff I've learned up to now.

Hey! Thank you for such an in depth analysis. I hope you get the score you want and have worked for. Could you summarize your entire study duration and schedule please? As well as all the resources you used and think are essential if aiming for a high score? Thanks in advance.

No dont read goljan right now.

Listen Goljan audios if you can. İt is gonna help a lot. And Please trust me dont waste your time with minutiae details. İ havent seen any question with minutiae details. They twist well known concepts and ask you. This is why if your concepts are weak you will not be able to answer these questions.

So do goljan audio and if you can read uworld 1 more time that woud be awesome. DO NOT USE ANY OTHER SOURCES. Because you have already known everything . You should

No kaplan uworld and fa is not enough honestly.

İ studied with these sources. But in exam i had to use my educated guesses in %90 of anatomy and embryo questions. İ havent seen these questions before. İ felt like i was doing general surgery board exam

İt is more than enough to get good score.

But subject wise Kaplan anatomy genetics and emryo arent enough.

All you need for this exam is

GOLJAN+UWORLD+FA+KAPLAN BOOKS EXCEPT PATHOLOGY

Learn every concept cold.

For Anatomy Embryo and Genetics there are not lots of things you can do about. Just study Kaplan+uworld+FA and trust your instincts and luck in exam.

Hey you're right, thanks, I'll stick to UW (I'm currently doing it the 3rd and final time) and FA along with some other minor sources (mostly review). I'll definitely try to do the Goljan audios.

Also do you think it would be advisable to start Kaplan qbank one month before the exam?
I did the 2 7 hour kaplan simulations and did the kaplan diagnostic, and some low yield or rather my difficult topics from the kaplan q bank (cell bio, genetics, embryology, behavioral sciences, histology, anatomy) but haven't done more than that. Do you think doing Kaplan q bank at this point would help? or confuse me even more?

I did USMLERx once and UWorld twice so far. Did both online and offline NBMEs.

İf you read uworld 3 time you can start new qbank. That woudnt hurt. It is always good to see different question styles. But the key thing is to understand. Do not just read question answers like you read story. Try to ask yourself question about how they can twist this concept and ask you in exam.

Default best of luck. I am certain you killed the beast

Well with everything been said and discussed. It almost answers all my queries. thanks for that. Just couple of things more.
1) in retrospect knowing how step 1 questions are vague and more twisted than ever. What would you suggest one should do? is it the same uworld and FA material just in a more twisted way? or are they testing stuff from kaplan or things we consider low yield?

2)If one has to pick between all resources. would you say uworld helped you more or First aid? I am asking so that i put more energy towards that.

3) any weird bugs/ topics you might recall?

4) you mentioned you prepared really well for behavioral. Can you tell me more about it? I am pretty weak in that.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience, i will be remembering you in my prayers. You will score great
Godspeed mate
