Help Pedialyte in diarrhea?

Why are children given pedialyte during diarrhea which is a hypotonic solution instead of an isotonic solution that's given to adults ?

what i knew was, that infantile diarrhea is hypotonic fluid loss, so you cannot give just plain water it would add to the hypotonicity. so we give pedialyte
whereas adult diarrhea is isotonic <goljan>
