Hello my dear friend, i know how frustrating it can be. I just received my exam results today and i am proud to say i did ok (235)
Now, about your problem, i think these can be the problems you might be having:

UNDERSTANDING ENGLISH: Since many of us are IMGs, sometimes we have trouble understanding the question, my gf understands a lot of the concepts that are quite difficult to master, but! on the NBME, since questions tend to be longer, she cannot really show her knowledge. Solution: try improving your english.

KNOWLEDGE: Sometimes we don't really understand the concepts we are being tested on: Let's say i give you a pressure volume loop, and then i show you that after an infusion of drug X you can clearly get an increased contractility. If i ask you, which drug is most likely, you can definitely think of (let's say) Digoxin, however what if Digoxin isn't on the answers, but you find Epi & NE then the question becomes more interesting because now you have to think why one and not the other (for example you should look for another change on the graph, or maybe a clue on the clinical correlate). Of course, this habit takes time, and if you only trust FA, then you cannot really answer. TIP: focus on understanding the concepts, not just memorizing random facts.

TEST TAKING STRATEGIES: Finally, there will always be questions that are particularly difficult, just take your best guess and move on. Period. Chances are we cannot answer correctly because sometimes, you may need a lot more of understanding that you just aren't going to acquire so fast. I am sorry to say this, but i think we all have weak spots, and although we can improve them, it's impossible to master all. That's why (i believe) doctors have specialties and subspecialties, so we treat a patient as a team, and not just one doctor. So, learn to priories your time with questions.

I hope my advice can help you a little, I think i can help you better if you describe what you found most difficult on the NBME.

That being said, remember ALL MEASUREMENTS HAVE FLAWS, even NBMEs more important than 1 evaluation is a bunch of them. Remember, as the good old Fischer says: Greatest part of Courage is Endurance! [i know some people like him, some hate him. I think that personal matters aside, he is a good teacher].

Just hung in there, and best of luck! BTW: If i could go back in time to change only one thing, it would be to enjoy my preparation a little more. I was doing great but, i received some bad news, and well, although my score is good, i think it could have been even better.

Congratulations on your efforts, keep on!

Hello there my friends
Sorry for the very late response and I wanted to thank you for your advice. Finally Im done with this horrible step 1 exam. My score, was disappointing lil bit 200 but here's what happened. I had to Daley my exam for 3 months, had some crazy family issues going on and my baby daughter had some health issues which thank God ended in being fine.
What I did in those 3 months is purchased Kaplan Qbank and it was what I really needed of types of questions.yeah they were so hard and twisted but made me think a lot before I answer and helped me to recall my Info so good. I was scoring mid 60s and even mid 70s sometimes.
Then I was worried whether to take an NBME test or no. And so I took NBME 16 a week before my test and got 228!!!! Yup I was surprised just like you and couldn't believe I raised my score from 177 to 228 by doing the Qbank and studying harder and harder.
Now why I got 200?? Simply Can say those prediction test will never nail it or predict your actual score since you are doing 200 Qs and the real exam is over 320 Qs, and this what happened to me, I got bombed with behavioral and statistics Qs like hell( statistics was my weak area especially under stress), beside I had only 3 hours of sleep the night before. So this what happened to me and this is my story. Getting ready for step 2 ck now, but this time I'm ready for that **** lol.
Thanks again and good luck in your life guys
