Default Beckers Q Bank

Has anyone tried this Q Bank....
So far from what I have heard this is the order of the Q Banks:
1) UWorld
2) Kap Q Bank

UWorld > Kap Q Bank > USMLERx

I dont know where Becker fits in this description.

Any thoughts on it.

Default Becker Question Bank

Hello Ethen, I cannot comment on the ranking of the various USMLE question banks, but as the person who has been in charge of the development of the brand new Becker bank, perhaps a few comments about our process would help you decide for yourself:
1. All our questions are written by MD/PhDs and reviewed by our teaching faculty.
2. Each question receives review by faculty in multiple disciplines to assure that we have a maximum level of clinical integration.
3. Our unified goal is to provide questions which teach clinical skills for problem solving which is where our faculty agree that the boards of the present and future will reside.
I am most happy to help you in any way that I can if you have additional questions or concerns.
Mary Ruebush

uworld>Kaplan qbank>becker qbank>usmle rx qbank

use usmle rx qbank for memorizing first aid and uworld as well.

For full transparency: Mary Ruebush was employed for kaplan for many years (more than 15 years) prior to her transfer to becker. I had her as an instructor actually.

Perhaps there's something going on with the movement of professors from kaplan to becker such as Dr.Raymon, Dr.Daughtery among others, not too sure. Since they are competing businesses there must be some incentives involved.

However, since becker (formerly falcon) is new with not many years so far and kaplan proven for many years, it is up to the individual to decide.

Prices are substantially different but it is a business after all.

My gf did attend falcon a few years ago with dr.goljan for pathology (only reason she went at that time).

In the end, the exam is between you and the usmle. The path of preparation one follows is up that certain individual.

Hi Penicillin! You are absolutely correct! I started in board reviews (as did most of the names you will recognize) with ARC Ventures (A Rush Corporation) back in the 1990's. Our company was purchased by Kaplan and we collectively were there for about 14 years. When the opportunity arose to return to the environment in which we had started with ARC Ventures, we all jumped at it, so we've come full circle. (The person with whom we started ARC Ventures is now the head of DeVry Medical International which owns Becker!) Small world! Most of us made the move in spite of less pay because we have a passion for what we do. The faculty who now created the totally new Becker curriculum, in fact have much more than a century of compiled experience in this process. The name Becker is new, the expertise is very well seasoned! So you are absolutely correct that all students now have the wonderful choice to choose what works best for them! Different strokes for different folks, and now all students can compare products side by side and decide what is best for them individually!

I would like to try out Becker Q Bank but:

1. It is way too expensive compared to already well established Q Banks and they had years of scrutiny by students and faculty.

2. They (UWorld: 2000+ , USMLERx: 2,500+ , Kaplan: 3000+) have lot more questions than Becker's (1000+).

3. Never been scrutinized by students.

My point being that unless Becker makes it easier for students to try out their Q bank it is unlikely that it will become a mainstream QBank due to lack of feedback (just look at Picmonic-great product, poor business strategy)

Currently UWorld is the "Gold standard" because students can correlate their score with their UW average.

I am quite sure that it is an excellent Qbank but how to compare without trying it out?

A crude analogy being that gorgeous but expansive suit/dress which you never wore !

Just my 2 cents.

Correct Answer

To everybody. Well I can say that you can't take a conclusion without knowledge, first you should try Becker qbank and then make an opinion. I recently bought the becker qbank and let me tell you it's really goood (Y) of course the questions are tougher than UW. There are some tricky questions from becker qbank that is really helpful to avoid more mistakes in the future when you deal with a different type of question.
Consider also that now a days with the new change of pool of questions after May 11th the scores are lower than previous step 1 takers.
Most of step 1 takers agree that the level of questions are tougher than UW and there's a shift to the type of kaplan qbank questions.
Becker qbank is same as difficult from kaplan qbank. So why not to consider try to do Becker qbank?
So I prefered to try Becker qbank and after that made my own conclusion.
My conclusion was positive of course.
P.S: You are in close contact with them also. All representatives are very kind and nice. You may contact them through email and inmediately you get a response, even they call you if there's some issues, whatever. They are amazing!!
Just try and you will not regret.
