Hey Ray. One of the main toxicities of statins are rhabdomyolysis/myositis, Which is the inflammation and subsequent breakdown of muscle. The Increased muscle breakdown causes more cells to rupture, leaking there contents into the blood. One of which is potassium but also creatinine kinase. The hyperkalemia in the blood can leads to various changes in ion disturbances, causing hyperpolarization of cardiac myocytes which then leads to arrythmias. You can also see this with any type of crush injury, like trauma after a auto accident. Hope that cleared things up.
