Syringe Hepatitis B Profile after vaccination!

A medical student, who had been vaccinated for hepatitis B five years ago, receives a needle stick from a patient carrying the hepatitis B virus. He does not report the event, and several months later, the student develops abdominal pain. At the student health clinic, he reports the needle stick, and a blood test is performed. Assuming no other exposure to hepatitis B, what would the analysis for hepatitis B most likely reveal?
A. Hepatitis B surface antigen
B. Hepatitis B core antigen
C. Hepatitis B e antibody
D. Hepatitis B core antibody
E. Hepatitis B surface antibody

The correct answer is E.
The medical studentís serological workup would indicate the presence of HBsAb, the antibody against the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg). Presence of this antibody indicates immunity to the hepatitis B virus and serves as putative evidence of his Hep B vaccination, as the vaccine contains recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen.

Hepatitis B core antibody is critical for diagnosis during the window phase, when the surface antigen is absent, but the surface antibody isnít detectable yet.

The presence of hepatitis B e antibody indicates infection with low transmissibilit
