Zygote Urogenital Sinus Derivatives!

A newborn infant presents with urine draining from his umbilicus. A presumptive diagnosis of an urachal fistula is made. The structure which persists develops from the urogenital sinus. Which of the following structures does not develop from the urogenital sinus?
A. Ureter
B. Trigone of the bladder

Correct Answer

The correct answer is A.
The patient has an urachal fistula, which occurs when the allantois persists, thereby forming a direct connection between the urinary bladder lumen and skin at the umbilicus. The allantois and trigone of the bladder develop from the urogenital sinus. The urachus and median umbilical ligament are different names for the same structure, which is the fibrous cord, after the allantois degenerates
