Crazy Looking UWORLD graph

Hey guys,

So I have a dilemma... I am almost done with UW. I have 34% left and I plan on finishing that in 3 days. I have been doing small blocks of 10 to 15 questions in the start and then through the middle I did 15 to 20 questions per block. If you look at the end of the graph where its dropping down low again- thats where I've started doing timed tutor mode and doing 30 to 46 questions per block. I know this graph isn't pretty at all and my cumulative average is very low for UW!

Please advice me on what to do or if this is normal (although I highly doubt it)..:toosad:

I'm doing UW these days, initially over several days I did like you (10-15-20 qns) untimed tutor mode. And got similar unstable graph...My problems were:
1) skipping words in questions, not getting deep into problem and than ...Ooooh I knew that....
2) mind still being distracted in answer of previous question, while answering on current... (like in 2nd question thinking of answer of 1st...)

So, than I moved to timed mode, 46 q-ns per block...seems more stable and trains for timing, doing answers in separate time is better for managing the info.

Try to explore what is the problem, in concepts, in facts or in you, being somehow not concentrated in question...

Good luck.

Thanks a lot for your reply!

I feel the same way.. I think sometimes I over look or misread the question and when I review it .. its like "oh i knew that" or "why didnt i think of it when i knew it!"

But still Im nearing the end of UW now .. i have about 650 questions left.

With tutor mode you can never be sure what the problem is but it just seems like your tired or something because that what happened to me. In the middle my score dropped by a lot and i stopped doing qs and just went over the ones I got wrong and read other things. I also lost some confidence and kept 2nd guessing myself so u could be doing that too. After a week started again and I was back to increasing my score. Whatever the case the 60%+ is really good but I think the best thing to do is do it in untimed mixed mode. With that u can get a good idea of what you are weak in. Hope that helps.

Thanks that was quite helpful. I think I might be a bit saturated doing so many questions everyday .. may be ill take some time off and read FA but either way, its a little demoralizing to not see my scores improve .. even though i feel like im learning from UW! :toosad:

Hey hope, just want to say don't worry too much about your UWorld score, focus on what you are learning and really really work on your weaknesses. I don't think UW teaches you the core basics, it tests your understanding of them and adds a bit of icing to the cake. First of all, I think you should stop doing tutor mode and go back to doing blocks of questions. Even if you don't score high, it gets you in the mind set of doing questions that way. Also, I think tutor mode makes you over think things, meaning when you read the explanation for one question, you might over think the next similar question.

I did UW random timed blocks, and reviewed everything in complete detail, meaning it took me 2-4 hours to review each block of question. I only managed to complete 70% of UW with an average score of 63%, and I think if I had finished UW I would have scored even better (not that I'm complaining!). As I read the explanation for each question, I looked up things in FA or google and made sure I understood the concept, not just the question. Each day, I picked a topic to review in FA, and read that after doing questions. As others have said, don't worry, you will be fine so just keep working on it :)

I agree with heights,

Hope, Your graphic is a lil bit scared i cant deny you but in the same time i just feel when i look at the graphic is that you are overburn... It looks that you know the material but instead of achieving a great score you are getting lows.

So my advise, take a few days off UW, take your time, remember that healthy minds can do awesomeness but if you are so mentally tired you wont get a great score... and i think that's your problem here. as you can see you started getting great score at the beggining, and then went low, and i bet that when it happened again ( getting good score ) u were so relax ... and again started getting worried.

So my advise, take full exams, like 44-46 question at least 2 blocks per day,, if you can just do 1, do 1... and review the exam.. and keep doing it on your time, dont rush yourself your mind is telling you, i got the knowledge but dont rush me.

Other thing is never stop looking or reviewing your FA... Do as height said, choose a topic or subject and do it everyday and you will be fine! =)

Thanks heights & rulz for your advice! I really appreciate it!

My UW ends tonight. I still have 400 questions to go but I extended it for a month. My exam is on September 21st so I have enough time to go over it one more time!

I will complete my first round of UW by Saturday and then starting next week just focus on UW Notes & FA. Then I will do UW a 2nd time and i'll be taking NBME's in between so hopefully my score keeps rising!

Thank you so much for all your advice and taking time out to write here :D
