Question question - hiv positive patient - ring enhancing lesion

a 38 year old hiv patient presents wid seizures, severe headache presents to ED. he has difficulty in answering questions. ct image of biopsy specimen was given. it was a ring enhancing lesion located just next to d 4th ventricle? d answer was toxoplasmosis. cud it be cmv( given in answer choices). can its periventricular location make d ans cmv encephalitis?

Here's a list of possible causes of Ring enhancing lesion...:

  • Brain tumors (primary or secondary mets)
  • Toxoplasmosis, specially in the HIV patient
  • Hydatid cysts
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Tuberculoma
  • Resolving hematoma
  • Postoperative changes
  • Aneurysm
  • Brain infarction
