Question When to apply for step 1

Hi, here is that eternal question, when is the time to apply for step I. I do not want to apply too early, but I do not want to wait until I am completely ready either, because the application takes some time.

I know there is a thread on this, but I can not find it.

Thanks for your input

Ask some people from your country and your med school how long it took for them to get their form 186, but do preparation first and then simultaneously start the paper process. Or, alternatively give yourself enough time to prepare and do the papers first. Otherwise, you will end up extending you eligibility period or even postponing the exam.
