Arrow Burnt Out Before Exam!

So my exam is next Tuesday (in 3 days), and I have 1/2 of FA and All of UW Notes to review (already reviewed them once so don't panic )

NBME 7 - 490 (220)
Free 150's - 75% Correct

What the heck do I do? I have 1 more day to finish all that, since I don't want to study on the day before the real thing. Any magical suggestions that will help me push through?

Alright patelMD,.
I just saw your post...
Ok, so we are on the same day!!
Also did NBME 7, got 400...but I know I could do better 'cause I left out some 5 questions unanswered on two block. Bummer!! So, that's why I asked about the exam format...I work better seeing the questions lined up on the left side of the screen permanently...for some reason it helps me focus timewise. thanks for your reply. I still have about 40% of FA to review.. and I have done 70% of UW once...scoring 57%... how did u get those free 150?? ... ok ,to your question, I will just go over the highest yield ...for example.. usually the first one or two toxicities written for drugs are usually the one that get asked the most,, so that's what I'll try to pound in .. and .. ok, I took some notes while studying so I'll go over that quickly too...mainly drug side effects.. and finally I'll go over disease associations on last pages of FA (which shouldn't take long).. I just won't have time to go over UW..but might just skip to the educational objectives of IMMUNO and Histo ,,my lowest.
Ok ... good luck... 150 please, let me know.
BYE>>> OH, Don't burn out... study as hard and take a short break when u need to.. I have put a little calendar in front of me to remind me that I have to keep pushing and it magically takes me energy lol... might work for you.

Default Final Countdown

We are on the same boat, my exam is on tuesday, I feel this month has been a little weird, between lapses where I feel motivated and others where I slack off and watch tv. My plan is to review the highest yield information of first aid, do the free fred software questions tomorrow, and try to relax a bit. I'm thinking if it is necessary to go through the 36 goljan high yields (since they are a bit old I0m not sure about it. My assessment scores are:
UWSA 1: 235 (starting august)
UWSA 2 : 252 (three weeks ago)
NBME 11: 233 (two weeks ago)
NBME 12: 231 (last monday)
I'm currently doing usmlerx with 78% average, 70% questions done, which I guess doesn't mean much but at least it helps to go through first aid.

PatelMD you are almost done...just take a small break..see something funny that you like..and then start again. You can do it

I have a question though. How long did it take you to finish your first revision of (FA + UW) ? And how many hours did you study per day on average for it to get done ?

to do or no to do umlerx....that is the question.... I'am not sure, to tell you the truth I've been wondering if it was a good idea or not, the questions are easier than uworld, and compare with kaplan qbank the difference is that kaplan qbank ask some really weird questions( but they have the little videos and the best heart audio clips you'll find in any question bank (uworld and usmlerx audio clips suck)).
As you see, I did kaplan qbank and uworld, I was left with a month before the exam, to do assessments, and decided to do another qbank. My options where gunner training or usmlerx. Gunner training has a free month offer right now, I tried it out, it is not bad, but it is more useful for starting preparations, questions are the most straightforward I've found. They have an option for reviewing flashcards which wasn't bad, so after using it for two days I decided for usmlerx, which I've found in forums is a either love it or hate it qbank, many people say it is good, but some people say it is a waste of time.
Personally, I've learn many things from it, discovering stuff in first aid that I didn`t paid attention to first. I really think their score correlation is flawed, it really overstimates and gives a CI of plus minus 20.....
I'll post my final impression on qbanks after I get my score, but, one thing for sure, is that doing questions is one of the keys for step 1 success, especially doing different questions, I don't know what is the point of doing the same qbank two or more times....

These questions are MUST DO before the test! A few of my questions were the exact same concept (not same question, but same concept). Know the images, for the histo pic, know what other conditions could cause the same thing- I got same image with diff answer choices.

@patelMD- you have put in a lot of work already, and right now the most important thing to do is get your mind in test mode, not worry about what you can or cannot read. I had all these grand plans for my last week, and I felt pretty tired and not able to relax much, so I just told myself not to worry about what I didn't get to. In the end I only finished 70% of UW and didn't reread the micro and pharm chapter as I had planned. I focused on getting enough sleep, and light review on the days before the test. If you need a 1/2 day off now, take it. Don't burn out now, just keep chugging and you'll do great!
Good luck everyone!!!

UW took me about a month, and first read was about 2 weeks I think.

As for the timing, I'm the kind of guy who doesn't really keep track, I set a quota for myself like I have to finish all of FA GI today, so I don't stop till its done, or if I find that its a really small section ex. General Pharm, ill start on the next days "planned" section. So basically, I stick to a "X" number of planned pages a day.

Everyone else: heights,dr. Niraj etc. : thank you all for the encouragement! Found it really helpful!

Heights: that's exactly how I feel, I had many things "planned" for the last week, and now it just feels like I wanna forget it and just take the darn exam!

hey patelMD, just got back to the forum and saw this. Just relax and work on some of your weak areas. Sleep well the night before. I had a 221 on my nbme a week before the exam, and was hoping to improve but i just got my score 2 days ago and the final outcome was 215. Im a bit dissapointed coz i think i put in a lot more effort than the score shows and i prob had a lapse of concentration on the day that mattered - my only bar below borderline was gentics, and it was wayy below!

So ill say this, relax, sleep well, get into the exam and get in with the mindframe that you are going to kill it. that you will do your absolute best. i took a break after every block, and id recommend the same although if you can ride the wave for the first 2 blocks together and that works for you, go ahead. and dont worry about the breaks, youl manage the time...just do not allow yourself to lose concentration on that day for whatever reason and youll come back in 3 weeks with a 99, then you can throw some smilies this way...

best of luck!

I know, the fred software doesnt work on mac! it sucks.
There are three things you can do:
1) install windows on your mac
2) take the prometric practice test (I've heard it is the free 150)
3) ask someone using a windows computer if you can use it for a few hours.

If your exam is in a few days, no 3 is probably the best option. But if you have time and you have a prometric center nearby, I'd go for the practice test. If prometric wasn't that far away from where I live, I'd take it. I think it's very helpful.
Hope this helps.

I dont know- havent done them yet, just trying to get started /:
but you should definitely do them, I think it might be good a few days before the exam, to get familiar to the FRED format.

Oh and good luck to everyone who is taking their step tomorrow!!!
