Default BIOCHEM- seriously struggling

Finished reading anatomy and physio- it went so so.

Started reading biochem (never done at med school) and REALLY struggling. Kaplan videos are OK but its just crazy the level of knowledge required.

Anyone who managed to do OK at this topic despite a poor background- how did you do it?

Please help

I had a very poor background also. In fact, it scares me a little still. When I started to read Lippincott's biochem, I realized that it's not hard. In fact, it's fun.

I agree that it has to be the most frightening subject for step 1, but if you read lippincott's (the images are very helpful) then watch kaplan videos, I think you should be set.

I also hear that kaplan biochem is the best book out of the whole Kaplan series. If it didn't work out for you, then you might need something a little more conceptual and so I recommend Lippincott's Illustrated Reviews for biochem.

Warning: it's very time consuming.....it can probably take a whole month to read cover to cover.

I think at this rate Kaplan might take me one month. I'd read it quickly but I've been told its very high yield. I hope path and micro wont be this bad.

I was not bad in Biochemistry course, it only took me 2 weeks to read Kaplan's, I thought I was OK in it, but several subjects after - I don't really remember metabolism. I think the key here - it is a crammable subject, some things you will see in different section, it will become easier for you when you get back to it. But do get back to it quite frequently, otherwise, it'll just not stay in your memory. And, yes, it is considered HY.

P.S. I came back to my notes and was like "wow! who was that person who wrote all those important notes? and that looks like my handwriting!?"

I also had a poor background in Biochemistry. I tried with the Lipincott too. But I realized that it would make it too long. It is simple, crystal clear, but too much materials. What I am trying to do now, is to combine the Kaplan Videos with the Kaplan Lecture note. So far so good. I hope I can complete it within 3 weeks.
Good luck Guys.
