yes. it is in the current newsletter:
"NEW ATTEMPT LIMIT FOR USMLE EXAMINATIONS

The USMLE program is introducing a limit on the total number of times an examinee can take the same Step or Step Component. When this limit takes effect, an examinee will be ineligible to take a Step or Step Component if the examinee has made six or more prior attempts to pass that Step or Step Component, including incomplete attempts.

The effective date for the six-attempt limit depends upon whether an examinee has taken any Step or Step Component (including incomplete attempts) before January 1, 2012."

before 2012 it doesnt count toward the limit. if you want you can pm me your email address and I will forward you the newsletter!
also, I don't think if you cancel the exam date it will count as an attempt... But I guess you'd have to check with Prometric to make sure.

I don't think "incomplete attempt" means that you don't go to the exam.
Incomplete attempt, means that you go to the exam and you don't finish it, like you go away in the middle of the exam.

Anyway, please tell us what the ECFMG tells you about this.

I believe an incomplete attempt is when you come and start the exam, but leave before the finish. So, it counts as an attempt, but your score will not be reported.
If you register for exam and don't show up, you will have to pay a fee to prometric to reinstate your eligibility, but that doesn't count as an attempt. If you cancel it however, your fee may be lower, or no fee at all if you cancel within 31 day period. Hope that helps.

Hi , i wanted to know if i leave the exam room before completing the exam, like leave the last 2 blocks, will it be considered as an aberrant behaviour and will the usmle community ask me for any explanation regarding why i havent complted the exam...can you please guide me as to what my reply should be in that case...
