Help Help

I want to say hi to each one of you doctors and future doctors of this forum. I am a 2nd year medical student in Dominican Republic and I am planning to take the USMLE step 1 before I start clinical sciences, which is going to be January of next year, so I am looking for your help on how to study for step 1 while I am taking 2nd year medical classes in Spanish.
Has anybody here gone through that experience?
How can I study for that exam and still take good care of my classes?
Well, I would appreciate if you could help me going through that process.
Here is my plan:
I am going to watch Kaplan videos with the lecture notes except for pathology, I go with Pathoma, then I will move to first aid. After that, I will use Kaplan qbook for testing my understanding of the materials, then I will do uworld side by side with FA before I take any nbmes. That's all, tell me your experiences and point of views doctors and medical students like me.

Hello there!

I did not have the same background as yours. It would be a brilliant idea to go through recent exam experiences here and elsewhere. This exam requires a lot of dedication. Good that you are in your 2nd year, you'll have a lot of overlap while studying.

A few changes in your plan that I'd suggest are:

1. Start with FA as you are going through Kaplan and pathoma in your 1st read itself. Will help you locate information in FA, which is likely going to be the only book you'd be reading just before your exam. So better to adapt to that early. Make connections everywhere! Anything in FA is very high yield, so pay a lot of attention to those things while going through Kaplan.

2. It would be better if you jump right into Kaplan q bank or usmlerx q bank right from the beginning instead of the q book. Since ultimate assessment is going to be done by questions, better to adapt to good quality questions. It also provides good feedback on how well you grasp things as you have mentioned.

Keep visiting the forums and get in touch with like minded people over skype for discussions.

All the best!
