Default IMG - step 1 failed ..please advice !!

hai ,
I am Mia an IMG and 2012 graduate .I decided to go with Usmle in 2013 and started reading from jan ,2014 .. my study period was not planned and was interrupted due to personal issues ..I prepared on and off and i knew it was not a serious preparation and I was forced to take my exam in december,2014 (worst decision bt I can`t help myself at that time) ..yesterday I got my results and as I expected I failed the test . Now I really want to go through this with serious preparation and real efforts ..
please tell me .. what are my chances of getting a residency in internal or gyne/obs or psychiatry if i score decently in this attempt .. and what are my chances to apply for 2016 match ..if I can go through the step 1 and step 2 ck with decent scores before october ...

IMO 245+ is a decent score. If you ask me what are the chances of getting residency with 245+ on 2nd attempt? I'd say more than likely but if you ask me what are the chances of you actually getting a 245 ? I'd very less likely. Not because I am underestimating you or anything but because this what the statistics tells us. Most people who attempt step 1 2nd time end up failing again or getting low scores.

Now it's up to you to set an example. I'd advice you to focus more on getting a 245 than on "chances of getting a residency" at this point. Good luck!

MIAB.
You need to take this 2nd try with extreme seriousness.
There is cero room for mistakes.
You need to make this exam preparation phase the number 1 priority in your life. (I am not kidding).
The road to passing the exam is very clear, (getting a high score is a little harder but is still doable).
In your case you failed to do both, so like I the previous fellow posted. Statistics are against you, so please, prove them wrong!.
In your case most likely what killed you was not necesarily ""not understanding the concepts"" but more like failing to do your due dilligence when it came down to studying. (ie. studying full time, the right material and uninterrupted)
You mentioned you had to stop studying several times due to some external factors.
That honestly makes me mad because I have several friends who have done the same thing, thinking they can pass the exam dedicating only half effort to this exam. Or thinking they can have a ""balanced life"' while studying for the step 1...
Im sorry but there wont be such a thing as balanced life while you go back to prepare for this exam.
yes, it may sound extreme, but extreme situations require extreme messures..
So plan ahead a time when you will not be disturbed, kill the material that you are supposed to review, and you will have a chance at getting an awesome score this time around
Good luck!
