Medicolegal and Ethics Does partners need to know about sterilization procedure!

if a married female(or vice versa) wants a sterilization procedure to be done on her does she require her husbands consent.
Does the scenario change when they are unmarried?

They can do it without partner's consent however they should be encouraged to discuss with their partner (if they don't have kid) about this as it a permanent procedure.

Unmarried can also do it without consent but proper counselling need to be done and the procedure should be fully explained and encourage thinking or discussing with close relatives about this.

exactly what whocares says.

Also for USMLE purposes, a woman's body is hers and she doesnt need anyone concern, this is even true for a preg woman, whether married or unmarried.

Search Kaplan's View

Hey there,
kaplan qbook, behavioral test 2, question 41

a 45 year old woman has just given birth to her fifth child. She wishes to undergo a tubal ligation. The physician should...

the answer was "discuss the benefits and risks of the procedure with both the patient and her husband".

and the option "maintain strict confidentiality and not disclose the patient's wishes to her husband" was considered wrong.

So which is more correct?
