Why would you take it without trying 1 NBME? I studied for a couple of months, took NBME 13 and got a 227. And now Im about to finish UW and my scores are like yours. So what did I gained from taking the NBME? Confidence! Bigtime. Now it is no longer an issue of ¨Will I Pass¨, but more an issue of how High can I score?, and that can significantly improve your confidence/reduce your stress when the time comes.
It also gave me an Idea of how where the questions (cause they are obviously different from UW, and gave me a clear picture of what my weaknesses are.
My exam is next tuesday, Will I take another NBME? No.
So summarizing: Do you need to take an NBME to pass? NO, but why wouldnt you?
Do you need to do USMLE WORLD qbank to pass? No. I got a 227 without doing any their questions, but after seeing how much more have I learned from that qbank alone, Why wouldnt you do it?.
The path to succeed in the step 1 is clear:
It is Lots of hard work, Firs Aid Plus 1-3 Qbanks (Depending on your level of knowledge, time and commitment) and extra source here and there to complement for Pathology and your subject of choice).
Just my 2 cents..
