Default A repeated USMLE question

A 54 year-old man presents to his physician for a routine checkup. He has type 2 diabetes for 6 years. He takes oral anti-glycemic medications and he had no complaint since his last visit 6 monts ago. His physical examination is unremarkable. His lab tests are normal except for his lipid profile which shows the following results :

Triglycerides : 365 mg / dL

Total serum cholesterol : 207 mg / dL

LDL cholesterol : 165 mg / dL

HDL cholesterol ; 37 mg/ dL

Which of the following is the recommended initial therapy for this patient :

A- Diet and exercise

B- Statin

C- Bile acid resin

D- Niacin

E- Fibric acid
