Arrow Hope2Pass Exam Day Experience

Hi guys,

Sorry I am about a week late on writing my exam day experience but here it goes -

So the night before the exam, I went to bed around 1 am. My exam was in the afternoon so I had no worries to wake up early. I slept in and woke up around 10. And I suggest you sleep at least an hour or two early coz I had trouble going to sleep.

After I woke up, I got ready for the exam and the center was about an hour away so I left around 1230 and was there by 130. I actually looked over some heart sounds in FA before leaving which was helpful because I got one heart sound which was a midsytolic click. Anyways, I got to the test center and they let me start early coz they had a free computer.

When I started my exam, I was a little nervous/ shaky but honestly, don't be scared!! It felt like I was at my library, doing some UW questions (because the layout is exactly the same!). I was relieved and after doing about 25-30 questions, I eased in and the rest of the exam went smoothly.

One of my concerns leading up to the exam was the fact that there are 7 blocks to do each with 46 questions. I thought I would run out of time or that I would not have enough energy or concentration to finish all the blocks. This was not an issue. I had about 5-10 minutes left in each block and even at the end of my exam, I had 1 whole hour of break time left!! I finished my exam and the survey in 7 hours.

So .. as for the blocks and breaks go -

Block 1 - Not too bad. Pretty straight forward.
Block 2 - HARD! This block looked like it had a lot of those "experimental questions"...Questions about things I have never heard of! lol

Break - took about 10 minute break to just relax. It was good that I did the first two blocks back to back coz I was ready to go when I got there. Then I took a break after the first two blocks and by the end of second block I was tired as well.

Then after that I don't remember much about my exam but I just took a 10 minute break after every block. After block 5 I took a lunch/supper break and went to a cafe in the building. It took me about 20 mins and I was very refreshed. This break made the last 2 blocks go very smoothly. I took a 5 min break after block 6 just to stretch. Then I went ahead to do the last block and finally I was DONE!

Now, for the things I took with me to the test center -
4 bottles of water, 2 energy drinks, 2 granola bars, a small towel, and a pen lol Honestly, I didn't even end up needing the energy drinks and only had 1 and a half bottle of water during the whole test! I ate my 2 granola bars between small breaks which was good. Also, I suggest you take a small lunch or something since its a long exam!! I had a lot of break time left so I decided to go one floor down in the building to a cafe to eat - good idea since it refreshed me! Also make sure you wash your face and use the washroom in your breaks when you need to.

What did I write on the the laminated paper/board -
NOTHING! I didnt need to write anything lol At that point I was eager to start my exam so did not bother writing anything down. However, during the exam when i was doing questions, I would write stuff down or write down the equations for biostats or renal equations to have them in front of me. I found it more helpful when you have a 2x2 table or equations in front of you because then you can see what you have to substitute where. Also, I wrote down the following -
Alpha 1 - Increase BP
Beta 1 - Increase HR
Beat 2 - Decrease BP
You dont really need the laminated paper. But its good to have it there if you want to write some things. It was helpful for doing calculations as well.

Some tips -
  • GO IN WITH CONFIDENCE!
  • Do not hesitate to take breaks.
  • Make sure to drink water/ wash face/ eat in between.
  • If you get stuck on a question, LEAVE it and MOVE ON. I actually had 2 - 3 questions that I got stuck on and I left them and finished the block. At the end of the block I came back to them and I had 5-10 minutes to finish those questions the marked questions.
  • CALL someone in your breaks. I called my parents and my gf (she actually got scared thinking I didnt write it lol) it helps you to calm down and relax to talk to someone even though the prometric center staff is very friendly.

I hope this has helped you on how to prepare for your big day! I wish you good luck and all the best to everyone who is about to write their exam and everyone who is waiting for their exam results.

Don't hesitate to ask me any questions. I will reply back when I get time. Currently on a vacation enjoying some tropical weather!

PS- I know I have not posted anything about my study plan, NBME marks, UW marks. I will post my study plan after I get my exam results. If its a good result only then it will be helpful to know about my plan! lol Also, if anyone has sent me any PM's I am trying to reply back soon! Please bare with me ! lol

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

And I would like to save the best for the last -

I want to thank A LOT OF MEMBERS .. I started going through the member list to write names of everyone who has helped me but there are almost 20,000 member names LOL I think that would require a day or two haha !! So I will not write any names but You know who you are and I genuinely want to thank you for all the kind help and time you have put in to help a peer forum member!

Hi

No I didnt do Kaplan QBank so i am not sure if any questions came from it. I think if u have enough time just do UW and Kaplan. I will post my full study experience after my results!

Kaplan notes are good. But do try to get more reads of FA in as you have a lot of time left still. The exam is doable but know FA thoroughly. A lot of the questions are conceptual but there are just as many questions that you can answer by knowing FA. Kaplan is good but it is time consuming.

For pharm, the questions were pretty straight forward. I only did pharm from FA and watched kaplan vids for ANS, and some cardio. Other than that i think FA is sufficient but then again it depends on the kind of exam you get!

Oh I forgot to add in above - I had no sequential questions and for media questions I had only 2 heart sounds. Had quite a lot of images but didnt need them to answer since they give you everything you need to know in the question stem. Also, know the cell types and what they look like .. ex neutrophils etc. Thats all

Pathology wasnt that bad but for physio .. know the lung graphs from fa and all the questions possible from UW that include the up down arrows. Had a few of those as well.
