Default To give Steps with a gap in career

Hi
I am a medical student from India passed out in 2009. I came to USA and gave my first step in 2011. But I could not pass. I was so much into depression because I was one of the gold medal students in my batch. So I gave up.Then I had my kid. Also due to some family issues I didnt have sufficient time. Now I got some time as my family is settled, my kid is grown up and I want to attempt again steps. But every one around me is telling that I have no chances to get interviews as I failed once and also there is a gap of 4 years. I also had the idea of doing MPH or PA. But being a medical graduate I could not go into those branches. I am in a confused state. If I take up another course then I will not be happy later. But if I try steps it is going to take a longer time and again there are less chances as people say. Please advise me.
