Listening Calm peace to study or fast peace? What should I do?

Hello, I have a big doubt and your advice could help me a lot.

I am just starting studying for the USMLE STEP 1... my question is.. should I try to urge to apply to step1, steep 2 ck and step 2 cs during 2012 year so I can try to match for a residency program by September 2012? Is that doable?

Or you suggest that I take it easy and dedicate all 2012 to apply for the exams and try to match on September 2013?

I ask this because I do not know what is more important.. to invest great time in preparing for USMLE even if that means that another whole year will pass from my grad date..? or should I better hurry up in preparing fro the 3 exams and try to apply on 2012 ?

I am an IMG MED GRAD 2008. I have been away from medicine since then. But I am pretty smart and have great scores from my med school. I want to apply fro FM.

oohh! and my last question is... what are my possibilities of matching for a residency program if I am a 2008 MED GRAD.??

thank you fro your advice!!

have a great day.

I suggest you do the best you can do to try to be ready by September 2012.

If you can study full time, (10 hours a day), you should be able to get double 99 in both the steps during a period of 11-12 months.

Residency matching for IMGs is becoming more and more difficult, year after year, with more US grads every year and a fixed number of residency positions.

Therefore, to have a realistic chance, you should get high USMLE scores and apply as soon as possible.

Thank you for your reply.... you said in a period of 12 months I should be able to do both, step 1 and step 2 ck. But what about step 2 CS? Is it possible to match to a residency program if you have not done CS yet?... I am not sure if I will be able to score high on the three exams before September 2012.
By the way...what is the limit date to apply for a residency program fro IMG... is it September or October?

Thanks!

You can get high scores in Step 1 and Step 2 CK and pass Step 2 CS all in a period of one year.

There's no deadline for residency match application but the sooner you apply (application opens September 1st) the more likely you'll get interviews. For more information about this read
