Lets not give up just yet, take an NBME, its only 50 bucks, take it and that will tell u where you are, and if you feel it isn't the best, then maybe delay or otherwise , take the extended one, get a good feedback and KILL yrself till the exam, I've read alot of good post NBME stories here.

GOOOOD LUCK!!!!!! Pls. don't let go, I need you guys!
Thanks man,it varies for me too.So all i can say is it all depends on what set of questions we get on the day on the exam so a lot depends on your luck. Anyways all what we can do is "kill ourselves" till the exam as you said. Keep up the spirit man and I am sure we ll do well.

Hey who said i am letting it go. I already said that this is my last month of eligibility period and i will have to take my exam any how and excel it.
To start UW i think these were my first two blocks and the first time i solved random questions in timed mode and Hopefully God willing i will improve as i end. We have enough time i think to get in good shape.
Now About NBME since i havent completed my 2nd Read of FA i will give it as soon as i complete.

BTW what did you mean by uworld 2008. Werent you solving kaplan. Is it the offline uworld if it is my sincere advice is to take online its worth money i realised it today.Since while doing online you may get similar questions which will raise your percent wrongly. It has good application based questions so doing kaplan and uworld will give you exposure to all sort of questions displayed in exam.

Good luck

Hey 60 % is a good score first time so no need to worry. Did you complete it, just read other people post mid 60% is equivalent to 95+ step1 score lady score or just read a recent thread in which the lady got 220 with 56%.so dont worry. If you havent completed then surely you will be increasing your score.
Use it as a learning tool.
Use NBME as a assessment tool.
With this score in UW dont even think of postponing exam, you will peak at the right time.
keep it tightly held its just coming !!!

Hey, sry USMLE2011 I was thinking you were nearly giving up.. But I am glad to hear you are not.

MAAANNNN - I am a cumulative 59% on the Kaplan Qbank ( 48% covered). What does my score scream right now? I am so not sure :/

I learn new things everyday! Anyone with mutual feelings?!

God Help us - just a few more weeks, and I still have so much to cover.:sorry:

Hey u dont have to be
We are all stressed and just have those bad days. Regarding scores this is what i used http://usmle-score-correlation.blogspot.com/
and for uworlDs there is some formula u can search around in forum but ur score is fine.I too had similar score when i started my qbank which later on increased.
Hey btw whats ur plan for the rest of preparation ?
when will u start u world ?
Is this ur last month of eligibilty period ?
So i think u start uw within a week time as it too has more than 2000 qns.

omg, yes it is Dec. 1

Plan for today: finish physiology inside out along with a bit of patho.
practice as much pathophys and possible, plus one block random( aim for 70% on tht one).

I am just going to put out the plan for tomorrow so I know I can't delay- PHARMACOLOGY ( my worst nightmare !).

Let's do this.

p.s: does anyone have a neat tid bit on the genetic calculation of probabilities, like rules and bla bal.. much appreciated.

Hey i will be completing my FA in couple of days and will do an online NBME.
Confused as to which one thinking of 6 but have heard its the toughest and under-predicts the score.
I scored it in offline NBME 1. but its very low which is completely correlating my uw score.
Which NBME did u take , can u share a little bit of ur prep.
people in this thread are very helpful and may give u a better idea.
Just give me few days and i will be be back with an online NBME score.

All d best

I'm taking it on Dec 12th. Finished Qbank today. I will now continue my first formal read of FA (two chapters left). As I went through the pdf of FA, I took screenshots of stuff that I felt I wanted to review. My plans are to review about 700 marked questions on Qbank that were the hardest for me (or just concepts that I feel I need to review, just in case). At the same time, I will only go over my screenshots of FA, which I will use as flash cards.

Taking NBME 12 on Dec 10th, which will be my 4th and final NBME. Also, at some point I will do my remaining qbank full length simulation, which contains no repeated questions.

Aside from that, I'm taking it easy. I feel the pre-exam anxiety slowly creeping in. I don't wanna get all stressed out even though I feel confident for the most part.

I took 6, 7 and 11 and got 590, 570 and 590 respectively... so I'm taking another one right before my test because my school sponsors them and I just want to see how I do. I'm anxious but I know I really have no reason to be worried because I did pretty well on the other ones (over a month ago).

I guess 203 is a little low, depending on what your goal is you may need to postpone your test, but that depends on whether or not you're willing to pay the fees... If you haven't chosen your specific date yet, then you don't have to pay (unless you need to extend your eligibility period). Or maybe try taking other NBMEs if you haven't already - maybe you just did badly on that one.

What I did was wait until I was ready to send all my papers to the ECFMG, and now that I have my permit I'm still waiting to choose my exact date. I know Dec 12th is available and will probably still be available the weekend before, so I will wait until the last moment to set my appointment (the fees for changing dates and extending eligibility periods are outrageous). On Dec 10th I will take my last NBME and as long as I do well on that one I will take the real exam on the 12th.

Other than that, I mean - what else can you do? Focus on your weak topics, review high yield material and do questions and questions and questions.

I keep a list of diseases/drugs/concepts that I keep forgetting, or things that I'm weak on, and I try to focus on that. My list has things like:
- CD markers
- Interleukins
- Pharyngeal/branchial pouches/clefts [embryo]
- The different glomerulonephritides which I always mix up

Maybe you could try to do something like that and quickly organize yourself and see if you can bring that grade up a bit, but you may not have a lot of time.

Star my step 1 practice exam experience

hi guys! how's it going?

today, i went to my prometric exam center to do a practice exam for step 1.

the questions were very similar to the ones on the free usmle 150 questions.

i'm thankful i sat for a practice test because i became familiar with the surroundings of the test center, what to do and not to do during the exam, and most of all, i got rid of my worry and anxiety

the staffs were very friendly and accommodating.

i brought with me my practice permit, 3 government issued identification cards which include:

a) my passport
b) my driver's license
c) my physician license in my country

once you enter the center, a staff on the front desk of the lobby will ask you for your identification cards. he only looked at my driver's license and physician license. and then he took my driver's license along with my PERMIT which contained my CIN (candidate identification number). guys, make sure you print your permit NOW coz i have read from these forum that some people only try to print their permit one day or on the day of the exam and they had trouble accessing it! so please print now

he then gave me a key to my locker. i was asked to put all my belongings there, including all review materials, WATCH, cellphone, food and drinks. i cannot tell you exactly the measurement of the locker but it is BIG enough to accommodate my oversized shoulder bag and a separate bag for my food. so yeah, it's that big guys, you can bring with you a big backpack
ladies, you can wear jewelries they did not ask me to remove them.

i was then asked to sit for a few minutes as they prepare my exam/workplace.

then they asked me to enter a door which i learned was the main test center. inside, they asked me to turn my pockets inside out to make sure i did not bring any other thing with me. i was allowed to bring a pair of soft earplugs make sure you leave the plastic tube container in your locker. they scanned me from head to toe using a metal detector (or whatever you call that )

next, i was asked by the proctor to verify my name, address, birthday, etc on the computer screen. she made sure i am the person appearing for the exam. he took a photo of me. its okay to smile just dont show your teeth . then they scanned my fingerprint for so many times (more than 6 times). i was then instructed on the rules regarding the exam. before going inside to my computer station, they gave me 2 sheets of laminated legal-sized coupon bond along with 2 markers and eraser. those served as my scratch paper. most importantly, they asked me to write my CIN number on one of the laminated paper. finally, they once scanned again my fingerprint to start my test. this is the BIOMETRICS part

then i was led inside to my computer.

my workstation was very spacious, with very wide leg area, i was able to strech my legs . the flat-screen computer was fine. fixed a little high at the level of my head (i'm a little tall) so i didnt have the pain of slouching my back.

on the screen, there's an icon with blank space for your CIN number. Copy very carefully the CIN number. and presto, my exam started!

if you take a break after each block, you will need to enter again your CIN number. be careful not to erase your cin number on the laminated paper when erasing something you wrote as scratch.

so that's about it guys. it's very easy as long as we follow rules.

there is still time if you want to take a practice test. i scheduled mine last sunday. got the permit after 2 days. logged in on the prometric site and grabbed december 1 (thursday).

but then if you dont want to take a practice test, i believe things will still go perfectly smooth on our test day. you can instead do the 2011 practice test fredv2 which can be downloaded on the usmle website

i hope my post was useful

God bless us all!!!

Thanks for the detailed experience.
Can you please tell us how much is the total break tym in practice test and the tutorial time?
Does each block consist of 50 questions or 46?
You said that we are not allowed even watches so how do we gonna calculate our break time if we dont have watch by our hand?

I have decided to take NBME 6 first.
I havent completed uw and will give form 7 which is the best predictor after i complete it.
My advice to you is postpone ur plan of NBME and revise ur weak points and do ur FA and the incorrect questions, after this u can sit for an NBME.
You have tym and u can cover up ur score.
If i was in your situation i wud have been a kinda ok and work out.
btw what was ur uw% first pass?

inside your testing/computer area? No....

in your computer cubicle, the only things you have with you are

Can you please tell us how much is the total break tym in practice test and the tutorial time?
Does each block consist of 50 questions or 46?
You said that we are not allowed even watches so how do we gonna calculate our break time if we dont have watch by our hand?
in the practice test, the total break time is also 45 minutes, the tutorial time is also 15 minutes. but if you choose to skip the tutorial, you can add that 15 minutes to the 45-minute original breaktime which will sum up to 60 minutes

the practice test contains 50 questions with one hour to finish it. in the real exam, it is only 46 questions

when you end a block, and you chose to take a break, the total break time remaining will flash on your screen, so you know how much time you have to rest infront of your computer or go outside to eat.

hey! m new to this thread! been following it for a while. n scheduled my exam a couple of days ago.. 21st DECEMBER! i hope m able to pull it off!

n ya as for ur concern, i went exactly thru a similar situation. scoring a 219 wen i SHOUD HAV MUST HAV SCORED A 229 minimum! basically becuz in rush of finsihng the block in time, i wudnt read the questions properly n get wrong the most easiest of questions, n worst is im doing UW second time, so it doesnt help me practice on that! but yes u r doing right by doing 4 blocks of UW a day. thats wat even i started off with a couple of days ago. evry morning 4 hrs n then off to FA.. but i manage to do them in like 3 hrs! but still might help me with concentrating at a stretch!!
n dont postpone ur exam! not now.. u hav enuff time to decide on that.. finish ur UW, give another NBME n then see wher eu stand!! m sure ull do great!!

Hey Shyangel thanks a lot.
U just boosted up my confidence, so yes i am not thinking of postponing right now.

I gave prometric practice test which were 150 question but it was mixed like 50% were same as those on the the practice material in the usmle website and the rest were mixed bunch of questions.so guys if u think u did the Prometric practice exam and u dont need to see the practice material u are wrong just dont leave them coz the questions are different in both the exams.
Dont know why but i was very nervous even though it was a practice test.I scored very low with 73% correct but i think it did helped me coz i was able to relax my nerves.

@ angelina the break time was 15 min at my centre.

Guys its high time and we need to motivate each other , the best way is to share what we are studying each day.
Gudluck
Hope we achieve what we desire

Hey guys I have a question. I have about 600 questions left to do in uworld and since I only do 1 block a day I won't finish until the 18th. I want to redo the entire qbank once before I take the exam which is on the 30th. Is 11-12 days enough time to redo the entire qbank? Should I start doing 2 blocks everyday so I can finish sooner and have more time to review?

Hi Guys,

I just did the 138 questions on the pdf file that acts as a content guideline on the website and got an avg of 85% ( you self mark it and all).

what prediction is that? or is that complelty useless?

Anyone who did it?

Default Need advice!

Hey guys. I have 3 weeks left now and I still have 25% of Uworld left to complete. I've just started my third read of FA. Do I have enough time to complete my third read of FA, complete and redo all of the Uworld questions and take 3 NBME exams?

Yes will give it but currently building up my endurance by practicing uw.
I suggest give NBME before it as it is the best predictor

Dude i am even in a lower position than you.Have more than 50% of uw left and just two read of FA.
It depends what score you want.Only thing you can do is keep studying, give an NBME and decide where u are?

Hows ur uw percent if it is in your safe limit then you are good to go, but again give an NBME.

I'm only averaging 60% in Uworld with all questions done in random, timed mode. I am reviewing the topics that I'm weak in and after that I'll take an NBME. I know I shouldn't sell myself short but I'm really just looking to get a 220. I feel like studying for this exam is a constant cycle of forgetting and relearning.

Question What are the 2 digit and 3 digit passing score as of Dec 2011?

I did read the 2 digit score reporting has been eliminated however i do not understand if the minimum score for the step1 exam has changed, or is it still at 75/188 http://usmle.org/transcripts/

Nope its not tuff!! its ez!! thats wat screwed it up for me!! a couple of twisty questions n i tried to act oversmart. n overthink n chose the wrong answer, thinking they cant ask such ez stuff!! so its an advice to anyone who takes NBME12!! calm n relax.. U KNO EVRYTHING!! every single QUESTION IS DOABLE!!! dont over think. they try to trick u..but the answer is right there!! dont fall for their tricks! Lots of distractors!! lots of em. be clever!!! n a 250 is v easy on that form!! goodluckk!!

What about NBME 11, is it overpredict? Is it easier than NBME 7 and 12?

I also got similar score in NBME 6 and am doing uw right now
Keep on reviewing FA AND do ur marked questions on uw. Dont stop doing questions as u need to be in flow before the exam.
Give another NBME if its around ur target go for the exam.
btw what was ur uw % percent for the first time ?

This the beauty of this exam , u know the answer and then u get options which make u think twice and then there are so many ways to arrive at a conclusion in medical science that you get caught in a fix.

But i need to say that uw people have mastered this act very well.
