Going to the process of the steps requires a full comitment! The process will be long, hard and expensive.
I am an IMG as well.. and found out a little late that I literally could have done the STEP 2CS long time ago when I was back home.
It only takes 3-4 weeks of SERIOUS reviewing and a good study partner(s) to practice the cases and thats it.
The Benefits of doing the Step 2CS first is that you will get positive reinforcement quick (ie, you will study not for long, and you will get it out of the way) wich will give you a sense of acomplishement and commitment. (you will have to pay 1500 dls+ for it). So Having paid for it and passed it will help you commit to this.
So if you are only in your 4th year.. If you dont have any clear plans, for this you could tackle this exam this summer.. and once you are out.. then you can take step 1 or 2ck.
If your in doubt as to what to take first out of those 2, I recomend you do step 1.
That will build your base to understand some of the things of CK way better.
Thats why its called a Basic Sciences exams.
But at the end of the day it will be a personal preference, as the order of taking them does not affect the residency applying process..
Good luck!

Each step helps u in ur next steps. I went for CK first. My reasoning is simple u start with wht u have fresher in ur mind. If u 're gna take it while in college go for step 1. If u'll start after graduation go for step 2. The basic science concepts in Step 1 are nt tested in Step 2. On the other hand, the clinical scenarios, drugs and pathophys of disease tht u get in step 2 will definitely help u in Step 1. That said taking Step 1 first will also help u in many other aspects I guess.

So it's up to u .

For ECFMG no. But for better chances of matching into a residency position yes.
