Arrow Succinylcholine desensitization !

FA states that phase II of succinylcholine muscle relaxation can be given AChE inhibitor as an antidote !! Kaplan disagrees and logic does too !

The nicotinic receptors should be desensitized to Ach by phase II, so giving neostigmine would do no good since receptor no longer responds. IS FA WRONG ?

I thought the only way to get rid of succinyl choline effect would be by the body's own pseudocholinesterase ?.....

help..?!

from med school as well, i was taught there is no antidote for succinylcholine.
FA is wrong.

AcHE INHIBITORS would reverse phase 1 of succinylcholine action. but not phase 2 since the nicotinic receptors are desensitized!!!!!!!!

Kaplan ppl are correct...seems FA is wrong!!!!

FA is dead wrong, and yes eventho neostigmine would reverse phase I lets be realistic (it lasts like 7 seconds) you wouldnt have time to reverse it.. soo yeah

Sorry, but neostigmine will worsen phase 1, not reverse it.
