Post NBME 7 removed... In comes NBME 17

As of today NSAS have removed NBME 7 and they have added a brand new NBME 17.

Another change is that any NBME form taken On or After March 6,2015 cannot be longitudinally compared to tests taken before that date.

Any thoughts people ?

When u take multiple NBMEs, they give u a longitudinal performance profile where u can see how u did on each subject in the different NBMEs. For example they compare ur Pathology bars in all the NBMEs u hav taken.

Nw bec they updated the system they don't shw ths longitudinal profile between the NBMEs u hav taken before March 6 and after it. Nt a big deal really so don't worry abt

So I just took it. I actually had no idea that it was that brand new. I just did borderline failing (188) . Pretty freaked out. I've got 1700 more of UWorld to go and I've been through all of USMLERx and am close to finishing DIT. There seemed to be a handful of things that I haven't come across in my studying yet. I'm definitely stepping up my studying immediately. Anyone else take it yet? This is literally the only place that comes up in a Google search for Form 17. I'm thinking I'm going to do another NBME within the week for sure.

I had 71% 194 form 12, uwsa 1 180 week before.
As I understand it's real to get ~10 per 1-2 weeks

Why wud u tht man? Take the NBME after u finish U world and revise wht u got from u world. otherwise it's meaningless.

Just took form 17. brutal! Got 192.
UWSA 1/2 ~220, kaplan / uworld qbanks ~ 215-225. what in the fudge?! I am kicking myself in the nuts for not researching this- had i known it was 2 days old i would have stayed away like the plague. I had just accepted that im ok with a 220-ish +/- 5, even 10. and now im just passing? it does wonders for the self-esteem, i tells you! Like the person above mentioned, this is the only place google found anything being mentioned about form 17. going to do form 16 tomorrow in the AM....

any info on why all these changes? no longer being able to compare results with older exams, etc? are they kicking things up a notch with the difficulty? or did i just spazz on this.... gonna go get a drink after this...

That's wht NBME replied when I asked the same thng: " The scoring process of the new forms are also going to be slightly different than the older forms. Therefore, the forms cannot be compared directly in order to be accurate."

I agree with Shidox on this.MY advice is nt to take nbme 16 or 15 nw mate. Give it a break for one week, revise then take one of the older nbmes available online. Like 12. NBME 16 and 15 u take them when u r 100% ready. They shud be the last NBMEs u take before the exam nw that u have taken nbme 17. U also have to analyze why u did so poorly on 17. Analyze ur mistakes. Is it bec the questions idea is new to u ? or u have the concept and still got it wrong?

i m feeling the same thing took 15 ,thought i would take 16 next and nw they have launched 17, so what i suggest is to wait for about 7-10 days so that by that time ull get sm fair reviews about nbme 17

It's a long way to April 14. U must take it. If it was in 1 week I'd say no.

I was in ur situation yesterday, but I took it today and it went very well. better than 16 actually.

hi, i got 262

i think is very similar to form 16, there aren't new topic ,maybe some strange question of physiology (like in every form) but with understanding all concepts of first aid is possible make a great score. it is more logical exam than notional exam.

so i did 16. 232. how in the world did my score go up 40 points in 24h is beyond me.... granted the 50q for 65 mins may have thrown me off the first time around with 17... also a lot of frustrating questions- im a doc, have to give bad news to pt, makes me sad, pt sees me and starts crying, how do i respond... idk, hopefully it was an outlier. back to qbanks for me 0.o.
17 did seem very different tho, lots of frustrating questions- asanine details, questions that can be argued about point of view- behavioral questions- empathy vs open ended response prompts... even after going over respective chapters in books, i still can argue for 2 of the options equally... thats not right. best answer shouldnt be subjective. or so incredibly asanine. granted, im pissed and opinion is very subjective but still! its A or B. not A but maybe- after going over kaplan, FA, DiT, answer should be clear.

TLDR screw form 17.

I agree with u that NBMEs have alot of questions with 2 very possible answers. It's a shame really. But U improved on 16 which is great. The more nbmes u take the more u know which score is the closest to ur level and which one was an outlier. Keep up the good work.

Default Hey!

I think people freak out very much on nbme scores. They are just to show what are your weak areas. There are few points I want to share:

1. They are different from real exam
2. my seniors who scored in 230s in nbme(3week/4week before real deal) and they end up in 255, 260, 264, 265, exam depends how well you have studied in your med school, but not on how well you did on nbmes. Also a bit of luck!
3. And your scores also reflect your background of education(in which med school you are, what kind of people are surrounding you etc.) this sounds weird but its true because good/healthy study environment teaches you a lot. I am not a brilliant student, but I have few brilliant friends who did amazing in these kinds of tests.
4. Believe me this exam does not want you to repeat every line on uw or fa(although they are very high yield..i also rely on them only...
5. so guys stop freaking on nbme 17 or whatever you scored in you previous nbmes, look forward how can you improve yourself in given amount of time.

Sorry! if I sound arrogant but, stop posting your nbmes scores here and start studying and improving your weak areas, start posting question or concepts instead.
Post your NBME after you receive your score to help other in tracking their progress!!
Scoring high on NBME 17 is not your goal!! I have already wasted 10 min while writing this post.

Good luck!!

I agree with you. Something is wrong with this form. I scored 222. But 2 weeks before 17 on form 16 I had 228. I know I worked hard this two weeks and I acknowledged my previous mistakes. So how did it come that my score downgraded? btw my first nbme 15 was 222 too. And I passed it 6 weeks ago. So does it mean that I haven't learnt anything during 6 weeks?????

I would really appreciate if you text me your real score. BC I don't think that I'm going to take any other nbme before exam (28 April) in two weeks. Please Just to be more confident that 17 is wrong. And it's not a reliable score.
