Hi
I also took the exam on that day. I have heard that they send you an email around 10: 00 am to let you know that you score is available. The past few
weeks have been long.

Nice score. I am yet to get my score. Took it on the 24th. How was your preparation?
any NBMEs, UWSA taken? How many mistakes do you feel you did in the exam? More than 12 per block?

Oh,

I did full time study Mid December - March 12th. Started reviewing on/off March 2014. Almost a year .

Here is my history:
NBME 11 in November - 195
NBME 12 January - 220
NBME 13 Feb - 240
NBME 17 March 5th - 220
NBME 15 March 8th - 234

Uworld practice 1 Feb - 250
Uworld practice 2 March - 254

I used exclusively FA2014, Uworld Q bank average 70%, finished 100%, PATHOMA - learned it by heart pretty much. Also path.library.utah.edu - used to doing neuroanatomy and just going through histo slides and gross images - super helpful. Made me feel like an expert in hematopathology.

UsmleRx: watched all their videos per subject, did flashfacts and did 70% of Qbank, average 60%.

I would recommend learning Pathoma by heart. I thought it was the most useful and concise resource. Micro and Pharm and Biostatistics - exclusively FA - crammed them last couple of weeks prior to exam - I felt everything was covered there. Did not learn from Goljan, look through some of his chapters, they make sense, but Pathoma is built way stronger.

I felt and still feel weak in gross Anatomy, so I would recommend reinforcing Anatomy. I thought if I'd known Anatomy a bit better - it would help.

And what was your exam experience like? Time management? How many questions did you mark per block? Did stupid mistakes?

After exam I felt that I have done maybe 60% correct. I thought I failed. I do not think I can give you a good estimate answer on how many mistakes per block.

Good thing that I did and would highly recommend - I did not run out of time, but did not have a lot time left. ALthough when I was doing Uworld I would be done with block within 30 minutes. I think timing is the key.

Hope it helps, Good luck with your prep/exams. Let me know how it goes.

Im scared like hell... i gave my exam recently.. results awaited... weird exam... i felt like its more difficult than uworld... and FA is not enough

i would just like to ask you one simple questions --- and ya.. before that... CONGRATS on your score :-)

My que -- i answered most of the questions by eliminating the options... not like i knew the answer just by reading the que stem...!!! Did you knew the answers staright away or you also used elimination technique..?

I agree, answers were not clear black-white. For some i had answer in my had before even scanning answer choices. But i'd say for most i had to exclude, and a lot of times i ended up with two really good choice in my opinion .

Default California Med Board

Ok, here comes a little irrelevant question. Is there a way to apply for PTAL in Cal Med Board prior to ECFMG certification and passing Step 1 and Step 2?

I can't find a good link, according to what I've read I need to be ECFMG certified, which means I can't do it for 2016 match year. Is this true? I hear other IMGs telling me stories that they applied prior to taking step 1/2. True/False? I tried calling cal med board, no success

Default felt horrible after step 1 exam

During the exam I felt horrible. Questions were too long and I felt like I marked about 16 to 20 questions on each block. I had no time left to revisit marked questions. By the 4th block, it was so bad I was almost about to cry. Some how I finished all blocks feeling like I failed the exam. Every hour after the exam I constantly went back to my books checking if I had marked the right answer for every question I remembered. I had made a few silly mistakes and it made me feel like giving up hope. I was in total shock for the next few days, but then again nothing much can be done; what’s done is done. After a long waiting of 3 weeks, the results were up and I was happy that I got 212.

Started NBME 11 – 130 (4 months ago)
Last UWSA2 – 230 (1 week ago)
UWorld 75% average (2nd time)
Final step 1 - 212

Did you take any other nbmes and what were your scores? Were the qs similar to uworld in terms of length and level of difficulty!
Congrats on being done!

Some questions were like uworld, but many were not, so I marked about 16 to 20 per block. I think you need to know FA top to bottom to answers confidently, otherwise it will throw you off. I did all NBME. Below is full details.

This is to share my Step1 experience, may be helpful to some student. Usually our college gives 8 weeks to prepare for Step 1. The exam I schedule was in May. Although I was studying before, I started to take the exam seriously in March. I started with FA, Pathoma, Pharma, and mostly did UWorld qbank. My NBME scores were:

NBME 11 - 130 - 7 weeks ago (March - major freak out)
NBME 12 - 170 - 6 weeks ago - Fail
NBME 13 - 175 - 5 weeks ago - Fail
UWSA 1 - 211 - 4 weeks ago - Pass
NBME 15 - 196 - 3 weeks ago - Pass
NBME 16 - 190 - 2 weeks ago - Fail
NBME 17 - 192 - 1 week ago - Pass (May - Postponed exam for June)

UWorld qbank average 52%

Every week although I worked hard and reviewed UWorld for the 2nd time, the score was not going up. I was upset because it was just staying around 190. I extended the exam a few times, but towards the end my mind was totally shutdown. All my friends passed the exam but I was not in any position to appear for exam (since do not want to fail). I was thinking to quit medical school and go for PA, since I thought that I will never pass. I then decided to postpone the exam and went for a week long vacation.

After doing some research, I found the reason why my score was not going up. The main reason was because my fundamentals were not clear. I also had some anxiety issue. Finally I concentrated on FA. I took DIT and USMLE-RX qbank. I started doing a chapter at a time from DIT then recall using USMLE-RX qbank. After having completed within 3 weeks, I then repeated the UWorld qbank again. I was averaging 78%. I re-schedule exam in June. I took all NBME so do not want to repeat it, since it will not predict well. A week before the exam, I took UWSA2 and got 230 (so was happy). I got 85% in free 150 questions. Few days before exam, I did a full test (8 hours long) three times and was getting around 75% averages. I finally felt satisfied with my average scores and was ready for exam.

After a long waiting of 3 weeks, the results were up and I was happy that I got 212.

Last UWSA2 – 230 (June - 1 week ago)
UWorld 75% average (2nd time)
Final step 1 - 212 (Exam - mid June)
