Default My step 1 experience - the exam

Hello,
I am an IMG who prepared for step 1 for more than 6 months.
I got through FA with Goljan, Kaplan and BRS physio then UWorld (95% of it but corrected around 75%) mostly system based with some random blocks and a total score of 81%. I re-read FA in the last 3 weeks.
Took NBME 11 3 weeks before my exam: 251
NBME 16 10 days before my exam: 241 (was at 65% of my revision, did a lot of stupid mistakes so I surely improved from there till the exam).
UWSA1: 265+ (87.5%)
UWSA2: 265+ (84.7%)
Felt they were easier than UWorld.
Took the exam on the 24th of march. It's long. It's difficult. It's like taking 7 blocks of UWorld back to back with 2 average to easy blocks and 5 difficult ones AND A LOT OF WTF QUESTIONS.
The most daunting thing about it is the fact that you can mark up to 15 questions per block which is scary. (I mark every single question I have 1% doubt about) I marked 20 questions in 2 blocks.
There was a lot of wtf anatomy (ENT, pelvic and musculoskeletal). FA is NOT ENOUGH alone. Behavioral is very present with at least 3-4 questions per block. Microbiology tackles all the weird and rare germs (anaplasma, neurocysticercosis, leishmania, sarcoptes, wtf). Biochem is easy. Path and pharm are easy in general although there were some really obscure path questions.
Overall I counted around 30 mistakes so far without counting behavioral so I expect around 50-60 in the end in total including experimental questions.
I made some stupid mistakes (around 5) and took some wrong guesses in 50-50 questions. I have a good feeling about it though, similar to my NBMEs and assessments. I had 20-25minutes left in EVERY BLOCK which is still puzzling me!!!! I had all the time I needed to review marked questions and sometimes the whole block.
Do you think I'm safe for a 245-250?

I used the same technique I was using in UWorld. Go through the questions. Read the question diagonally. Do not spend more than 40-60 seconds on a question. Mark every single question where you don't feel certain about your first instinctive answer. Review marked questions in the 20-25mins you have left.
Question length was similar to UWorld in general with some lengthy questions from time to time. Just read the last line first, vitals and the list of labs rapidly. Most of their values are normal.
I just hope I didn't misread questions in the exam...

I sat the exam on the 25th march and I felt the exact same way except that i had zero time to review anything.
I felt that the stems were VERY long and I'd go as far as to say that it was NOTHING like UW.
I am praying for a miracle as that exam was just insanely ridiculous

What were the most WTFish topics in your exam?
How many mistakes do you think you did? (<30, 30-50, >50)

Yeah took it 5 days ago.
I feel that my weak spots were anatomy (especially bizarre musculoskeletal questions), microbiology (bizarre germs) because I did not have time to re-read it during the last month and ethics (always been).

CTs and MRIs were easy. But I am not a reference since I already have broad knowledge in the field.

Got 2 heart sounds. You have to try to guess if it's systolic or diastolic (train yourself) and try to find the area where it sound the loudest.
Also got 2 or 3 easy ECGs.

My WTF questions were definitely behavioral and anatomy like you said. But believe me, there were toooo man wtf questions to keep a track of.

As for how many mistakes I made, I really dont know.
My preparation was quite intense and i covered all my bases so I am a bit disheartened and quite frankly, just praying that I pass at this point.

Yuuuuup totally agree with u
i took the exam on 19 th march and still waiting for the result
Basicly most of my studing were question banks , i did uswa 1/2 265 +, i did nbme 7= 261 nbme 13= 267 nbme 15= 264 nbme 16=264 , uworld : 89% correct random first time , did the sample exam 95.5% correct , most of kaplan and rx question banks
The exam was the toughest of all of the assessment And banks
bio, genetics and pharma were very easy and straightforward to the degree that i regretted the dedicate studying of the pathways , sideeffects , mechanisms of action ,epigenetics , collagen and elastin structure all of this didnt appear in my exam
all i got are very difficult questions in microbiology(the toughest) , anatomy , and neuroscience(not simple localization, there were mechanisms of congenital anomalies)
very lengthly questions appeared to me to the degree i finished the first 5 blocks first run in the range of 10-20min left , the last two blocks less than 10 min were remaining at each block before i finished , before the exam i used to finish the nbme 50 question block calmly in 30-35 min
in the exam i felt myself rushing and still had problems in time due to the very lengthly questions i had.
im sure that first aid was covering less than 40% of material appeared in my exam, if i added u world to the percentage it will not exceed 60 %
In each block i marked 7-9 questions , i made 4 silly mistakes , till now i counted 13 wrong questions from the marked the rest i have no idea about it
WTF questions appeard to me in the last 2 blocks which i think is unfair since my stamina was already drained so i realy had difficulties to focus in those last blocks

So guuys please post ur scores when u recieve them ,still there may be a bright side , hope this difficult trend of the exam be corelating with us getting high scores
wish u all good luck

Wow man chill out ! You're getting above 260 in the real thing i'm 100 percent sure! Lol 13 mistakes ?! Are u serious?! And ur still panicked. Your nbmes were very consistent, no chance you're scoring lower than 260.

dude relax, ur nbme scored were consistant and awesome i.e 260+ , uworld 89% correct first time, these scores define that u r one of the best one out there, so remember that if u r not getting good marks at the real deal then no one else too.
just relax.
i want to ask a question, and that is , you said that FA covers 40% and uworld adds upto 20% making total 60% , so wht advice do u have for us? wht abt the remaining 40% wht sources do we use to increase our knowledge?
there must be a solution for thing, by the way ur score will reveal the whole story, plz tell us ur score once u get it,
we are also waiting for it now
lol!
